Microsoft Account Goes Down, Skype, Xbox, OneDrive All Affected - Updated

UPDATE 3: We're seeing reports that some users can once again access their accounts, but a confirmation from Microsoft that all services have been restored is yet to come. For the moment, what we know is that Redmond is working on fixing things and everything should be back to normal soon.

UPDATE 2: Microsoft says that it already addressed some of the issues that made it impossible for users to log into their accounts this morning, but access on the Xbox 360 is still limited. "If you are on Xbox 360 you may still see lingering account issues. Other services should be good to go," the company explained.

UPDATE 1: Microsoft confirms on its Xbox Twitter account that there are indeed some issues with a number of its services and engineers are investigating. "Hey everyone, we're aware of issues currently affecting sign in. Thanks for your patience," the firm says. Original story below.

Microsoft services seem to be experiencing a significant outage, as users are no longer able to log in with their accounts on Skype, Xbox, OneDrive, and others.

At this point, it’s not exactly known what is happening, but we can confirm that we’re unable to log into our accounts here at Softpedia, with every attempt hit either with an error that you can see in the picture attached to the article or a redirect to the main log in screen.

Also, it’s not clear if all regions are affected or only some accounts are impacted by the outage, but Microsoft is most likely looking into these problems and more information should emerge soon.

Judging from the number of reports that are being posted on social media right now, this is a widespread issue and millions of Microsoft accounts might be affected.

Microsoft aware of issues
The Xbox Live Status page reveals that there are some issues with Xbox Live Core Services, with the company explaining that signing into Xbox Live might not work.

“We are aware that some members may be having problems signing in to Xbox Live. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we will be sure to provide you with frequent updates,” a generic statement posted on the page reads.

The same site also indicates that a number of Xbox apps are hit by issues, as well as the signing in service on the Xbox One.

“Hello Xbox members, we’re currently experiencing an issue. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please check back for updates,” a short notification explains.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft to ask for more information on what exactly is happening, but expect all services to come back online as soon as possible. In the meantime, Microsoft’s social accounts seem to remain quiet on all problems experienced by users attempting to log in, so waiting for an official statement is the only option right now.

This would have been far worse if Windows 10 required a permanent Internet Connection for those using a Microsoft Account to log into Windows 10 OS.

Luckily that is not the case.
