After an incredible 25 year run, we’ve decided to wind down DVD.com later this year. Our goal has always been to provide the best service for our members but as the business continues to shrink that’s going to become increasingly difficult. So we want to go out on a high, and will be shipping our final discs on September 29, 2023.

Those iconic red envelopes changed the way people watched shows and movies at home — and they paved the way for the shift to streaming.

To everyone who ever added a DVD to their queue or waited by the mailbox for a red envelope to arrive: thank you.

With the production they’ve been creating lately, if they decide to shut down the streaming business as well, together with the DVD mailing, it won’t be a loss many will mourn.

Streaming and quality control don't go together. Netflix has always churned out average content, it's not bad but never really great or must watch. That's why Netflix has to pay creators multi million dollars to produce and make content. Unless you have great IP like Disney with Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar or Warner with DC, GOT & HBO series you're not going to get a loyal fanbase who keeps their subscriptions active.

Netflix's end game is to be bought by Microsoft or Apple. It's probably the only way it will grow and survive.

Apple likes quality and for a while has been eying Disney. Microsoft is bunch of garbage under one umbrella so Netflix will fit the family of Office, Windows, XBox, Defender and all the rest very well. Match made in heaven.
Trust Microsoft to rename Netflix to something along the lines of Microsoft 365 Live Video Streaming service for Windows and Xbox or M365LVSWX for short.

No, it always has to be nerdy. Microsoft Native Video Pipe Distributor or something of this sort.

Microsoft Video Delivery Surrogate Host.

The problem is that in several cases what's available in streaming disappears, and something that one wants to see isn't available.

Yeah, so they don’t pay royalties for this content anymore. The less you watch, the less they pay and more profit for them.
