I think this feature puts Eset Smart Security Premium somewhere very close to the first tier antiviruses, given that Eset's signature engine is very good on its own. So, the fact that they added this feature is very cool. But, I agree that ESSP is too expensive for the features it offers. I'm not a big fan of antiviruses with extra features, but for that kind of money I would probably expect an antivirus to provide me with a dozen extra features besides protection.
Nevertheless, there are still opportunities to find a key somewhere on the Internet or to buy one inexpensively and ESSP will definitely become a much more powerful product after this update. And I think that the overall responsiveness to new threats and the level of protection may increase as the cloud gets new client machines to get the newest samples, but we have to wait for the release and new tests.
By the way, it seems to me that Eset has a very modest infrastructure in terms of servers, as I see almost all of Eurasia connect to servers in Slovakia for updates and reputation data. This could be the reason why they don't want to give the cloud to everyone and set the price so high for it. But why is it so bad with the infrastructure? It seems that Eset's business strategy is going a bit the wrong way. Because the company definitely has money, considering that its owners are some of the richest people in Slovakia.
