According to rumors coming out of China, Xiaomi is currently developing its first smartphone that will pack 16GB of Ram (via Gizmochina)

While 16GB RAM in a smartphone doesn’t guarantee great performance, such a move will definitely attract consumers’ attention towards the smartphone.

Do your think 16GB RAM is now important in a smartphone, or do you think manufacturers are just trying to create hype?

Seems like a bit much. But I’m not an Android user, so I don’t know the benefits of extra RAM there. I do know I just upgraded my laptop to 16GB from 8, and even that wasn’t a necessity for W10.

It's somewhat crazy that a phone will have 16GB of RAM. That's more than the 12GB of RAM in the laptop I'm typing this on and for many PC users, 8GB is more than enough. My current Xiaomi phone has just 3GB, which I feel is plenty for my usage.
