Key changes in this release:

  • Scanning across user profiles
NPE can now scan across user profiles, if there is an infected account you cannot log into to use NPE, you can scan from another account such as Administrator
  • Java vulnerability scan
NPE detects when the Java is out of date and provides a link to a KB to correct this.
  • Safe mode persistence
NPE is able to determine when the machine is in safe mode and will restart the machine in safe mode prior to scanning, NPE will return the machine to normal mode prior to threat removal
  • UI message streamlining/ UI refresh
UI has been updated and the messaging has been simplified

2 weeks ago, I scanned a couple of Malware Packs.
Of 35, http://malwaretips.com/Thread-Malware-Pack-2013-07-24-35?pid=129920#pid129920
Of 700, http://malwaretips.com/Thread-Malware-Pack-2013-07-20-700?pid=129931#pid129931

But that was NPE v3.

One thing that I discovered about Norton Power Eraser, it doesn't do a good job at detecting inactive malware samples, but on an infected system with active malware running in memory it usually detects everything.

However it also detects a lot of false positives, you will have to have special knowledge in malware to be able to distinguish the real malware from the false positives.

I'm glad they added the option to "Undo Previous Fix" which should restore false positives deleted.

It can be an excellent removal tool in the right user hands but can also cause major problems if the user doesn't know the difference between the false positives and real malware.

I haven't tried the latest beta yet, but I will soon. Looks like they have did many improvements on it.

Thanks. :D
