Not sure how it works if, like us, you run your internet off a cell phone. We have a monthly data limit when tethered, and it slows way down, to the point of frustration, when we go over (which we usually do). Having to be online to use office would surely run up the usage. Lots of people are in our situation, and it's one reason I'm sticking with an older version of office that sits on my computer.

You do not need a constant connection to use Office 365, only a valid subscription linked to your Microsoft Account. You can let Windows 10 set your connection as metered so it does not go over the data limit.

With an Office 365 subscription you can install the latest versions to the desktop, just like the previous version, except you receive updates to newer versions and other benefits.
