Windows 10 will launch in just a couple of weeks, and just as Microsoft promised, the new Office productivity suite specifically designed to work on devices powered by the operating system will be ready in time for this big unveiling, so today the company has removed the preview tag from the so-called Office Mobile suite.

Basically, Office for Windows 10 can now be downloaded from the store even if the new operating system isn’t yet officially launched, but it appears that Microsoft considers the new productivity suite stable enough to remove the preview tag from its name.

The new apps work pretty much the same as the preview versions, and almost the same feature lineup is offered, with some small tweaks here and here, but Microsoft most likely focused on fixing bugs and other issues that were discovered in the first releases.

More improvements coming
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint should all work more smoothly on Windows 10 devices now that they’re no longer in preview form, although more improvements are expected to be added in the coming months.

That’s actually Microsoft’s new approach with Windows 10, as Redmond says that work on the new operating system will never end because of the Windows as a Service concept. This means that new features are added periodically as soon as their development comes to an end, and a similar strategy is expected to be used for Office Mobile.

In case you’re wondering why it is called Mobile, it’s because this particular Office suite is designed to work as a universal app and target not only desktops but also smartphones and tablets.

Obviously, this version does not provide the same rich feature lineup as the desktop sibling, but it’s pretty good if you work with documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, and it is pretty much your best option because you don’t have to spend a single cent once you’re on Windows 10
.

Below are the download links for the new Office apps (keep in mind that Windows 10 is required):
