I started using Firefox as my main browser and I have a question concerning DNS. I use NextDNS system wide, but should I none the less set NextDNS in Firefox, or would that be unnecessary?

Setting up NextDNS in Firefox would be unnecessary since you are already using it system wide. Firefox will simply use the DNS settings you have configured for your operating system.

Unnecessary from a logical point, but there will be no problem if you decide to set up your NextDNS user-account also in Firefox Network Settings...
In fact, I tried it a few weeks ago, no problem while browsing with Firefox
