Ransomware attacks have overtaken credit card theft as the top form of cybercrime according to new data.

Ransomware attacks have become more commonplace than payment card theft incidents for the first time, as cyber criminals alter how they go about their malicious operations in an effort to gain the biggest financial reward for the least amount of effort.

Unfortunately, it has become way to easy to use ransomware for even not that tech-savvy criminals. And the risk-reward ratio is low, you only need a few victims for a nice payday. So no surprise here that this kind of cybercrime is booming business, alas.

Multiple options:
1. Best option: Reinstall your computer and restore your data from a recent backup. 100% succes rate.
2. Possible option: Identify the type of ransomware you have, and get rid of the infection. Then see of your can find a decryptor for your files: The No More Ransom Project
3. If there is no decryptor (yet), you can either accept the data loss or pay the criminals. I would advise strongly against paying the criminals and funding their business.

Last and most important step. Protect your computer and regularly backup your data!
