I have heard many say that Registry Cleaners are a joke and that they do not help. Not only that, but that they are more likely to cause system instability.

For the last month or two my computer's performance has been very inconsistent. I have had lots of hanging windows and my on demand scanner interfaces have been going blank while running. I got desperate and ran Power Tools Lite on Aggressive Mode. I told it to delete all erroneous data. There were 700 IE items available to be cleaned. I torched them and rebooted. Since then my PC is back to being the old hot rod it used to be.

I should also report that I run CCleaner weekly. I witnessed no positive changes after cleaning temp files and utilizing the registry scan with CCleaner.

I've been cleaning and defraging my registry for more than 2 years no ..without any problems...
I have been using in this 2 years : TUU 2009 and 2010 , Auslogics BoostSpeed 4 and 5 and Ccleaner...
Usually when you do a registry clean ...you'll be promted to backup...even if their is a very low chance of something bad happening you should always do a "backup" :D
I didn't try Power Tools Lite (yet) ..but I will take a look at it since you've recommended it. :D

A Registry Defrag isn't needed for Windows 7, if it was, wouldn't Microsoft included a built-in one. (Just something to think about).

Please read http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/2056-registry-clean-defrag.html

I use CCleaner for general cleaning but not registry feature... glary did cause me a problem once... I've found that if I restart immediately after any installation or uninstallation, the registry will do much of its own 'house cleaning'... (Win7)... although, I have to also admit, I've manually edited registry on a few rare occasions to get rid of some individual items that 'stuck' around... (i.e., Symantec)... But, I ALWAYS BACKUP registry before I even 'sneeze' on it...

Biggest 'speed up' from Defrag... IMO, registry cleaners are 'over hyped' for Win7...

@acuariano Nope not all un-installers for programs will do its job and will leave quite some junk behind such as useless registry keys and files.
That's why I use Revo Uninstaller with Advanced Scan to find as much left over traces as possible and remove them. No need for manual search win7holic.

I agree with the main post of #1 and over time have stopped using numerous programs such as TuneUp, Advance SystemCare, Auslogics. the list goes on, I'm a guy whos tried and used alot of different registry cleaning/"tuneup" software. Now the only software I use for this type of thing is CCleaner, I don't get any issues with CCleaner and it performs the best at cleaning junk files/temp, CCleaners registry cleaner is lite and I wouldn't it so often.

Power Tools Lite cleans the registry a lot better than CCleaner. Obviously you need to make sure you back your registry up before you use it.

All I know is that my computer was hanging bad on two separate occasions. Both times I ran Power Tools Lite. My computer became much more responsive. CCleaner did not help, though I do use it to clean temp files that get built up.

The full version of JV16 PowerTools has a great software removal tool as well. It will remove traces that a typical uninstall process will not.

I have been using JV16 PowerTools for many years. Until recently, hardly anyone knew about this product.

Messing around with the Registry is very dangerous win7, It could bring more harm than good. Use Revo.

@Win7 Why are you quoting "Advanced" like it does not have it,
The free version does have Advanced scan and that is the only important feature for me. Feel free to purchase the PRO if you honestly need all its other features but truth is you can get the features the PRO version offers from other freeware software such as its Browser Cleaner, why do browsers offer a clear history button and clear cache, cookies etc. Junk Files Cleaner? Use CCleaner. Autorun Manager, CCleaner includes a startup manager and windows has one built in called msconfig, And so on... But hey what ever you say... :)
