One of the innovative features of the Samsung Galaxy S10 range of phones is the ‘punch-hole’ front-facing camera, which enables the phones to have a virtually all-screen display – but now Samsung has confirmed that it’s already planning to drop this feature for future handsets.

Speaking in a briefing the vice president of Samsung’s R&D group, Yang Byung-duk, described Samsung’s plans to create a phone with a full-body display, with the camera and speaker under the screen. This fully edge-to-edge display wouldn’t have a notch, bezel or even a punch-hole – but it’s still a way off.

According to Byung-duk, Samsung is still two or more years off producing this futuristic screen, and before this it plans on reducing the size of the punch-hole in the Galaxy S11 or other future devices, until it’s small enough to effectively be invisible.

Too poor to afford new high end smartphones.
After a new iteration of the previous years flagship are announced or released, the 2018 devices drop in price. It's not a matter of how rich or poor you are. It's how you manage your money and what's the most cost effective option when you buy any new electronic device, (or car).
Example: S8 and S9 owners could probably skip S10, and then upgrade to S11 after S12 is released. If 5G is coming to S10 later this year, then S11 will be 5G compatible and so on.
Ideal checklist:
  • Price drop [x]
  • 5G compatible [x]
  • Still a desirable device [x]
At the end of the day, no one actually cares what smartphone you have. A phone is a phone and in 6 months your "new" phone is old tech.

When there is not enough work or when the average wages are low (say 100 dollars a week), it does not matter how well you manage your money, you simply don't have enough to afford a high end smart phone. This remark is a bit out of touch (like King Louis XVI asking why the French revolutionists asked for bread in stead of cake). Poor to your standards may be very rich in another country.

Because of the quote below, I understand what you intended to say (people don't really need a high-end and you don;t need to pay high-end prices), but please keep in mind that we are not all US-UK english speaking nor from countries with US-UK living standards.

At the end of the day, no one actually cares what smartphone you have. A phone is a phone and in 6 months your "new" phone is old tech.

I agree I have a four year old Windows Phone (of less than 125 euro), it does its primary job well (a phone)and allows me to email (for business) and whatsapp (for friends & family).
