Back in Computex 2018, AMD surprised tech enthusiasts by teasing a 32-core Ryzen Threadripper processor slated for Q3 2018 launch. With a new 12nm Zen+ architecture and a twofold increase in core count at the top end, AMD promised a huge jump from the previous generation of Threadripper processors.
...
.....

Today, AMD announced the official names, specifications, and the release dates for the next-generation Ryzen Threadripper processors. The 32-core version is called the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX, with the 24, 16, and 12-core products named the 2970WX, 2950X, and 2920X respectively. AMD added that the new WX suffix over the X indicates that the chips are designed for "meeting creators’ demands for the ultimate desktop computing power for the most intense workloads."

The 2990WX will be the fastest Desktop processor extent. But this still will pale in comparison to the 7nm Zen 2's coming in the first half of 2019 (as long as TSMC gets their act together- can't believe they got hit with a stupid WannaCry variant).

Next year cpu is always better than last year so it doesn't say much. These cpus are decently priced and if they are as fast as they seem without major hardware compatibility issues a lot of professionals might switch to them.

I think you'll find a bit more meets the eye with that attack. It's designed to look benign, but is most likely the TAO team at Unit8200. As this would greatly impact AMD, but have no impact on Intel. There's an active interdiction being conducted on all fronts by the Israeli's on anything not-intel to salvage Intel's reputation at the expense of any other firm.

The Israeli's are largely motivated by their own rabid self interest on the worlds stage, and we must not forget that. Also, since Israels economy is about 22% Intel, we should be observant of the happenings involving competitors.

TSMC says that their systems are up and running already.

TSMC says virus that shut down its plants is a WannaCry variant

The beauty of backups...

Every single ransomware attack I have dealt with... 'How are your backups?'.. If they answer great, we have them back up and running within 24 hours. If they answer not so great, it's usually 1-6 weeks or they head to a BIt Coin ATM machine, then it's another week to run the decryption toy from the ransomware kid and clean up traces. Interestingly, they're usually helpful kids after you pay. I actually had one offer the client to remote in and help fix everything back to normal.

Fun Fact- (This is old news, but if you didn't see this the first time around): In the beginning of June Intel showcased what they said was a Desktop Processor that would exceed the upcoming AMD Threadripper. What they didn't say was that it was an extremely expensive cherrypicked XEON overclocked and cooled by this (which was hidden under the table!): HC-1000B

A really nice article about this fraud here: Intel's 28-Core 5GHz Processor And Test System Breaks Cover (Updated)
