On Saturday afternoon, September 12, the Security Region North and East Gelderland (VNOG) was hit by ransomware. Internal systems have been hit and are working limited, and e-mail cannot be used either. Information that the units of the fire brigade need for a mobilizing is available. Notification systems such as P2000 and C2000 just work. Safety is not at stake. The role of the security region in combating the corona virus will also continue as usual.

With specialists and experts, including national authorities (including the NCSC the National Cyber Security Center) and the police, we are investigating whether the attackers have gained access to data and what the consequences will be. We do everything we can to ensure that all systems can work safely again as soon as possible. It is not possible to say at this moment how long this will take.

We do a lot of prevention and the VNOG is always on the lookout for cyber-attacks. It is not known from which angle the attack comes.

No updates on this yet, but a short explainer to what that security region in The Netherlands does:
The VNOG consists of 22 municipalities in North and East Gelderland that work together in the field of fire services, medical assistance, population care and crisis management and disaster relief. The organization is also involved in the corona approach in the region.
