I was brought a computer to work on, the person that owns it, told me all they knew was that when they tried to start it up, there was a ambler light on the front that lit up, but it would not start. So I plugged this tower in "HP pavilion" and noticed the amber light as well as the blue light flashing around the power button. I then unplugged the power cord, took the side panel off, and reset the memory, which ceased the amber light. Upon plugging it back, noticed the blue light was still flashing, i then went to the rear of the tower and on the PSU the green light was flashing instead of solid. So, i did some research into this, as i stated, first time dealing with a hardware issue as such. I read that if you unplug the main power from the motherboard, and check the light on the Power Supply Unit, if it is solid, it is the motherboard. Here's the part, i did not know you could do.. At this point when you know it is the motherboard and not the PSU, you can unplug the main power from the motherboard, and plug in the power for the tower, and while power is on, plug in the main power to the motherboard again, essentially "jump starting" the motherboard again. Although this was recommended not to try, as you can fry the motherboard doing so, at the point where i was with this tower, could not see where it mattered, as other option would be to replace it. The tip I found, worked like a charm, it brought this tower back to life. I am like many with this, i find the more i do this, the more i learn, as this was new to me. It is with hopes that this information may help someone else that may come across a problem as such!
