I really hope they continue improving. So far the holding company buyout hasn’t seemed to negatively affect them. I like their web management features for multiple machines.
Web management is huge plus, and theres plenty of features. Kaspersky recently added such dashboard even for cloud free, where you can run scans throught management and the support for freemium is up to 3 devices

Web filter is average, worse than kasperskys & bitdefenders
caching is worse than bitdefenders, kaspersky does aswell better when configured ( freemium)
On freemium version interecept x is included and bb & ai is there too , no idea how powerfull that is

Someone could compare freemium/ paid version and test them both with same samples

There is also sophos premium intercept x for android that is completely free software, and has many features over paid competitors, aswell web filter to filter out adult stuff etc. for childs and such

I may have to revisit it and see if there are any other changes other than the UI. I like that they finally added support for the new Edge. Can you now access the settings locally, or does it just bring you to the web portal?
Everything with an arrow icon opens the webportal. The only thing is that you can see which components are enabled.

Sophos Home 3.00 offers powerful behavioural blocker, however memory usage between 400-500 megs in idle and all great features requiring £35.00 payment are a no-no for me, and a reason I will not be changing Norton with Sophos anytime soon.

For £23.00 Norton backs up my data, saves my passwords, includes VPN, IPS and great firewall, and offers me the same solid protection like Sophos Home (and if I play a bit more with Sophos, Norton's protection might turn out to be better).

I installed to see the changes. The UI is nice IMO, but to be honest I'm a little disappointed with this release thus far. From what I can see they really didn't add much technology wise from v2. Aside from finally supporting Edge Chromium, the only other change is the UI. Hopefully they will offer more features and make some more big changes, as it has the potential to be great. I was just hoping that they would have added little more than they did (ie:more protection against scripting malware).

Time will tell I guess.

Nah.. it’s got many protections, but they are locked away. You must sneeze out some cash. But then if I am looking to sneeze this cash out, why Sophos? Memory usage is not great, but that can be forgiven. It doesn’t offer me however, the same array of tools that I will get with Norton or Kaspersky. Why give my money to Sophos?
Their marketing strategy is just very wrong. The paid version should bring a bit more value.

I am also disappointed with the new release. No really useful new features or improvements. The GUI is indeed nice but that is it. It seems to consume a lot more RAM than version 2.x.

Wish it would work with Sophos XG Home (Heartbeat) - Like this a infected System can isolate itself from the network. -.-

And it would make this a unique product that covers it all. ^^
This product is intended for home use where all this mumbo jumbo is not needed. Home users would prefer easier and simpler approaches. Sophos home will need a bit more work to become a unique product... especially with this unique resource-consumption...

I understand that the focus is home use but not everyone is a "User" per se... - Some of us would like to protect in layers and not just the PC-System itself.

What do I mean by that?
Home Network - In my case I have:
- Multiple PC-Systems (Laptops included) ;)
- IoT Devices
- SmartPhones and Tablets
- SmartHome

Sophos Home can not run on all this?!
I understand that as well but for having more then one PC-System the Heartbeat makes seance. So If one PC-System is infected the Firewall would Isolate that system and the rest works as intended.

So what is that concept based upon?
The Firewall should always be your first line of defense. I know not everyone is a pro, admin, IT-Specialist and IT-Guru. The factor I just put in is that the Firewall Firmware from Sophos XG is Free for Life with advanced features. So why not use it and make it compatible to Sophos Home.

Why even try to explain?
I myself am a Sophos Partner and realize and report to Sophos about the Home Product line on a steady basis. The thing is that actually Sophos Intercept X (Line) of products work very well and can not compare to Home Products. Even if you would like to use the Intercept X (Line) of products you have to go thru a partner to get it and be a registered company. Since it is designed for company's at heart... Performance wise Intercept X is totally different... Same goes for Administering the application itself.

That is why a product should never be focused with the intention to be super user friendly not all of use like that and would like to have more control. ;)

Best regards
Val.

Yes, but for users who don't wish their product to be user-friendly, there are many products already on offer. XG firewall is not really a home product either. Home users should go for solutions such as BItdefender Box or F-Secure Sense + Total. I agree that network isolation is a great feature, but I don't see it playing a major role on the consumer security market.
It is also not true that you have to be registered company to use or buy Intercept X. I myself have a valid license for Intercept X, which I have gifted. Again, average user will not need to isolate an infected device, as targeted and sophisticated attacks are mainly carried out against businesses. Home user is subject to a totally different threat arsenal, where infected device isolation will not help much.

Agreed.

I was hoping for a little more, especially when the jump from v1 to v2 had some pretty big changes. Hopefully they will add more as the months go by, but if they want to play in the same sandbox as everyone else, they will have to do a bit more than what they've done with v3 thus far. They already have some great protection technology in their enterprise offerings, so it's not like they have to reinvent the wheel, they just have to trickle a little more of that down into the consumer products.

I too would like to see heart beat intergergrated into sophos home and XG. Heck even if its a paid feature I still think it's worth it. Granted most home users wouldn't use it, or know how to, it would still be nice for those who do want it.

Myself am looking to incorporate either XG Home, or Pfsense at some point down the road. While out of the realm for most home users to setup and configure, they're pretty handy to have over your standard router. Best part is the ability to segregate everything into different networks, especially when one uses VLANs, but it does require more business grade access points (ie: Ubiquity), as most consumer devices cant do that afaik.

Thing is the Sophos Home is just not a good value for money. For £35.00 (and that's reduced) they offer what Kaspersky already offers for free... I don't see why someone should be paying. Sophos needs to up their game a bit.

It's not like they dont already have the technology, they do, they just have to implement it in the consumer version. Another nice thing that I would like to see is them allow the home version monitor/configure the mobile version. It would be nice to see all your devices (PCs, android and iOS devices) all in one place and monitor their settings/status.

They have the tech, they just have to use it.

Maybe Thoma Bravo will achieve that. :)

Hi,
My F-Secure Safe license days are over, so i decided to test Sophos Home Premium. Here's my quick opinions vs. F-secure Safe:
-Boot time increased about 5 seconds on my system, which uses fast nvme. That means about 20sec on traditional HDD
-first scan takes a lot of time, no biggie for me
-memory usage is quite big, about 400mb. Its good or a bad thing(caching -> faster response time)
-most of the demoscene products, which uses custom packers quarantined instantly
-exploit protection(hitman pro alert) killed my favorite MP3 audio player instantly, because of ROP mitigation
-slight delay when loading web pages
-URLHAUS samples detected, but getting a pop up "partially cleaned", then after a minute or so a pop up "its deleted" <--- wtf its this??

Kindest regards,
-sepik
