I have had trouble with System Restore points not restoring for me before, but this is the worst. Online posts about this problem assume that the points aren't really being made, but I have proof that they've been made. Their creation is seen in my ExeWatch logs, and the points are there to be seen in the folder where they are supposed to be. Below right is the last of 5 points in a row that refused to restore.

Please no heckling--I'm not an XP fanboy. I can't upgrade on this computer, and there are a lot of things on my plate to deal with before setting up a new system.

Disable Avast Internet Security and try again.

Edit:
Avast can be heavy on weak devices, and has had previous conflicts with System Restore. You might be better off with Immunet and Sandboxie for your 14 year old PC.

If you cannot upgrade, look at a older model Chromebook, it might be cheaper than a 1 year subscription of Antivirus software.
