Some additional info:

I'm using A Dell Inspiron with Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

When I attempt to change ownership & permissions of files in my C drive, it gives me an error ("An error occurred while applying security information to _____. Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied.") Finally, it seems as if it's taken over the role of my System32 folder because my programs are all run from it.

Thank you in advance.

I have no clue as to why my thread was moved, since it pertains to malware infecting my computer.
Obviously you did not adhere to the rules in section malware removal. First read the rules and then ask the staff about the thread being moved back. Create a log FRST etc. According to the rules section.

If you attempt to change file and folder permissions - and don't do it properly - then you will get that error.

Changing file and folder permissions isn't recommended - even by those that know how to do it as it can be unreliable and have unexpected\unintended consequences. The end result might be that you break things to the point of having to reinstall the OS.

That's the first thing I did. It's gone now that the thread was moved I guess.

I was already considering reinstalling my OS since it would be a relatively easy fix to my malware problem. I just wanted to see if I could remove it through other means first.
