Over 17,000 tablets infected, from 30 different tablet makers

Cheetah Mobile reports that its mobile security system detected 17,233 of such infected tablets in the wild, but this number could be much greater since Cloudsota, as mentioned above, was able to remove security apps and prevent detection in some cases.

Researchers found over 30 different tablet brands that came pre-installed with Cloudsota, all still available for sale online. The affected brands include companies like Alldaymall Tablet, FUSION5, JEJA 7 Zoll, JYJ 7, Tagital, and Yuntab SZ Wave.

In that case, security firm G DATA suspected that middlemen in the supply chain were responsible for infecting the smartphones with malware. This might be the case yet again, since too many brands are affected to suspect them of running an organized crime ring.

Cheetah Mobile said it contacted all manufacturers, but none has responded to their request for comment.

Well when we say China, everything is combination of prejudice and stereotype characteristics.

Since its entitled as 'Cheap' therefore expected those poor performance with pleasing claimed specifications. ;)

One of the reason why make a thorough research for smartphone brand and as possible check those local brands since rules and other implementations are not so tighter compare to others.

Partially agree with what @jamescv7 mentioned; though I have a liking for chinese brand products. Xiaomi is one of them. Performance wise, would say superb at that given price. Recently have a liking for Xiaomi and other chinese-made products too. The only thing i need to be very aware is the counterfeits. Anyway nowadays even samsung accessories have counterfeits and some even close to indistinguishable.

@CMLew: For Xiaomi, its easy to identify if counterfeits when sell somewhere any store caused their products are available only on their official website.

Ebay and Amazon where customers may sell their Xiaomi which is fine [second hand] just check the reputation from previous transactions.
