President Donald Trump reportedly plans to order TikTok's China-based parent company, ByteDance, to sell the viral-video app's US operations — and Microsoft has emerged as a potential buyer.

Bloomberg reported Friday afternoon Trump was planning to sign an executive order directing ByteDance to "divest its ownership" of TikTok's US operations. Reports then emerged, first from Fox Business Network's Charles Gasparino, of Microsoft's possible interest in acquiring TikTok.

Microsoft plans on finishing its TikTok acquisition talks ahead of the September 15 deadline set by President Trump, with a potential offer of up to $30 billion on the table.

Microsoft continues to move forward with its plans to acquire popular video service TikTok, aiming to finish up acquisition talks within the next three weeks. The deal could be worth anywhere from $10 billion at the lowest to $30 billion at its highest. Currently, it is not believed that either side has agreed upon the purchase price.

If the deal goes through, Microsoft would have one year to transfer TikTok's 15 million lines of code to the U.S., a feat that most other companies would likely be unable — or unwilling — to do.

TikTok to open $500m data centre in Ireland

TikTok has said it plans to build a $500m (£375m) data centre in Ireland.

It will store videos, messages and other data generated by European users from the short-form video-sharing app.

Until now all of its users' records were stored in the US, with a back-up copy held in Singapore.

The announcement comes at a time when President Trump has threatened to ban the app in the US on the grounds its Chinese ownership makes it a national security risk.

TikTok's Beijing-based parent company Bytedance denies the charge. However, it is in talks to sell its US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand operations to Microsoft.

And it looks like Trump is going to ban the app if it doesn't get sold. Very interesting to see how this plays out. I mean China bans most US apps in their county and makes their own versions. Maybe it's time the west did the same? Instead of selling out to companies like Tencent.

Instagram ( owned btw by Facebook ) has released a copy of TikTok named Reels. TikTok is an app where it's users can share short created videos. Usually added with music etc. Very popular especially with young people all over the globe.

TikTok is more then likely soon out/kicked from Google Play store because the US president signed an order. More of that in previous posts.

I never installed Tik Tok even when it was not banned in India. But this app has a very bad reputation India as far as i know. My many friends tried it and they all said one thing data sucker and time wasting and poor content. Finally Tik Tok has been banned, courtesy #Carryminati, Hindi speaking Indians will get this ;).
