After my old laptop died with Fedora and i am completely Windows Free, here is my new Setup.

yikes, seems like just a few days ago you had reinstalled Fedora and liking it. Oh, read it again, your laptop died, a hardware death? so it's a new laptop? Lenovo Thinkpad?? But several times you have spoken so positively about Fedora, why not put Fedora on the new laptop? Just curious. I created a VM with Ubuntu but preferring MX, so I may wipe Ubuntu and replace with Fedora. Or is Manjaro more interesting in your opinion. Where do you read to decide? The distrowatch blurbs aren't telling me enough, and each distros website obviously loves their linux. I only have the vaguest idea how Arch is than <insert distro here> ...

I like Fedora, but its no secret i really like Manjaro. Manjaro really never fails me and runs really good. I know there are alot of cons from some people against Manjaro but for me its the only real stable distro.

Yes the old laptop is thrown away, dead as can be.

I may have missed your previous manjaro posts. So between fedora & manjaro you prefer, ie, manjaro "only real stable distro" Thanks... (& now that I was specifically searching I found a few articles comparing & contrasting distros.

I see DE options so opinion welcome: my MX uses xfce4 as is my FreeBSD and I like xfce. I have ubuntu Gnome have not used it much and / but like xfce more (so far). So should I stick with xfce or install KDE Plasma? sorta "funny" the above template does not list DE.

I did a lynis (v3.0.8) audit on my MX, very interesting, very thorough it seemed and had a few (44)! good suggestions, but since I'm on VMware probably no point to some of them.... I did my 2d clamscan about 10 days since the first, more files and directories AND no malware. Then I did a scan with AIDE but got a config error. Also did a scan with chkrootkit and nothing found -- then did a scan with rkhunter... hmmm > it found 1 suspect file, 18 possible rootkits with a reference to xorddos. I'm guessing that is a false positive at this this point. it also said that rkhunter was 4 months old but I just downloaded and installed it today... v1.4.6-11

I haven't yet gotten to install either Manjaro or Alpine (or Debian or Fedora)???? my time is probably better spent learning linux and MX deeper...

I installed Manjaro xfce4 in VMware. Easy installation! So far fast smooth & solid here. firejail & apparmor are not installed, so will be looking for them. I saw a that some firefox add-on extensions are in the software updater / installer (sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology) although, eg, Privacy Badger was offered during firefox installation, so I added it then and saw popup about adding / updating extensions from software installer. Did not see that "warning" in MX. Is it ok to add firefox extensions from addons.mozilla.org? I assume so...??
Any hints or comments about Manjaro are welcome. So far all I have done is install Manjaro, update firefox & login to MalwareTips. This initial experience is very good (so far) :D

I've been running Manjaro for about 3 hours. Liking it a lot!! Correction to above, apparmor was installled and was / is running. Installed firejail ok and pacman mentioned to run an apparmor command for optimal firejail integration / protection. Manjaro has been great so far. It is quickly edging out MX as fav, although they are close.

Question: I am not finding mullvad vpn any Manjaro repos? I do find protocols wireguard & Qopenvpn. is it risky to download and install from outside Manjaro repo...?
suggestions welcome.
EDIT PS I took a look at Manjaro forum, & it seemed like "too much" for tonight... :cautious::sleep:

Mullvad is not available for Manjaro, well not the easy way.
I had a monthly subscription for Mullvad and switched to SurfShark, that one works great.

Mullvad is available in AUR. But AUR packages are built for Arch while Manjaro delays Arch updates, so there could be occasions when there will be dependency issues and in worst scenario even system breakage when installing something from AUR in Manjaro. It's one of the reasons why Manjaro is not a recommended Arch based distro.
Binary build of Mullvad :
