I use IDM. Easily the best one I've found over the years. Its one downside is you can't download audio from youtube.

Indeed, ghacks did an article on it, and came to the same conclusion. But it's not free.I also use IDM, it's the best download manager

I guess I am old-school, but whenever I see to mention an YouTube downloader or video/flash codec downloads, I get goose bumps.
I use sconverter.com - it is somewhat limited, many YouTube videos do not work, mostly those that are not in HD quality, but it is off PC.

I used to have it more than 3 years ago. It had "offers" during installation but could be avoided if you aren't a happy clicker. The app itself was pretty good.

I use Youtube-DLG, and it's fast, but for batch downloads I found some files that were not converted. Also, I couldn't choose which files to DL from a playlist or channel. Finally, I get VTT instead of SRT files for subtitles.
JDownloader is slower but converts all files correctly, allows users to select files to DL from playlists and channels, and can DL SRT files. It can also DL from Dailymotion, OK.ru, and other sites.
For individual downloads, I use Youtube Video and Audio Downloader for Firefox, but I can only DL until 720p. For the two above, I can get 1080p if it's available.
