Best free security application all things considered. Listed some in the poll to see how they do. Post your answer and say why.

Think I'm going to vote for either 360 TS or NVT ERP for underrated. I really like the sound of Bitdefender and would love to try it. Is BD free underrated?

I have several nominations. Panda deserves to be on the list because of its heroic scores on AV testing, often matching up well with the best of the paid AVs.

My little ExeWatch application, which logs all .exes and .bats which come on board my system in a Notepad file accessed with one click, is definitely underrated.

I can't agree so much with brain.exe any more after finding out about malvertising. Now you can get infected not just in porn sewers and crack and torrent sites, but at the most reputable of websites. So until the corporate world fixes malvertising, I think the best possible ad-blocker has to be one of the most valuable and underrated security applications.

In the case of malvertising, ExeWatch can be valuable, because it always makes noise and screen flashes when executables are coming on board.

I should finish the statement. Brain.exe is not underrated...for me it's sometimes  underpowered! o_O

I have never even looked at Panda. I always thought there was mixed reviews of the actual performance of the product since I first noticed it maybe 2012. Scared me off of trying it.

Another Vote for Brain.exe, after that I feel Comodo offers very good AIO protection for a free security suite. Another I would like to nominate is XVirus, I use it for ondemand scans and so far it has been great for me. I would normally use VirusTotal after scanning with whatever my current installed AV is then XVirus, and about 80% of the time, Xvirus has been spot on for me.

While you can certainly can get infected just by visiting a website, it has not happened to me for me for years, even when visiting risky or unsafe websites. I did get infected a few years back on a work computer, just through visiting websites, but I believe this was only because Java and Flash were not kept up to date. The only time I ever get infected on my own computers is when I launch an infected exe files.

I like VoodooShield's concept, but I still feel it could be improved even for a free version. I voted for NoVirusThanks ERP. I think the fact that it is so configurable for free and will always work on anything makes it valuable. It's out of development, so it's not very well known as far as I can tell. I haven't 100% trained NVT ERP pop ups yet to support Comodo and 360 TS. I think I can work with it long term if necessary though.

I voted for comodo simply because of their fast Virus recognition within their software. Also, I was considering voting for Qihoo but the main let down is that it even though it provides you with protection, other features built into it generally slow it down and cause a delaying removal of a virus.

I vote for Voodooshield because it helps us to make a decision when something is running, malwares are blocked before they can execute although the rate of FPs is a problem for someone

- HIPS: they just show popups after the apps/malwares are already executed without detail description so we don't have much info to decide if they are safe or not to allow. If you wanna make decision, you have to upload the files into VT or Jotti or just guess based on your knowledge. Also HIPS is really annoying. I think HIPS is the weakest link in the total picture of security layers if they have so many prompts but if they are light and don't cause so many popups, just the important ones, and recommend to block the malware activities (like Qihoo 360), it will be good

- brain.exe can help but it depends on our moods. We may become happy clickers at certain time :D
