Hi guys, I am helping a lady with her Dell desktop...whenever I turn the pc on after the dell logo all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I am not familiar with w10, so I'd appreciate any help.
Try rebuilding the Boot menu, start reading here for a faster solution, with just what you posted it leaves it open to a host of issues, good luck.

I think you can, you can run the commands from Powershell or CMD can you not get into either ?
Can you boot to a cmd prompt, if so I can list the commands to rebuild the MBR
If you can boot to the CMD prompt, which you should be able to even if you cant boot to Safemode.
Enter these commands in order.
1> BootRec.exe /fixmbr
Let it complete
2> BootRec.exe /FixBoot
Let it complete
Try rebooting normally and let us know
@Overkill ...
I have been reading about others experiencing the same "Dell- Black Screen/Blinking cursor" problems...
Some have said that it happened when they had something plugged into the USB,..
May be worth checking that only the Keyboard/Mouse is plugged in (& nothing else) ,and then reboot.
Apologies if you have already tried this,or if this "fix" has been mentioned in links provided by my MT friends above.
Well I tried all night long but nothing worked, so I had no choice but to wipe the drive and re-install since I am in a hurry to get this done. Thanks for the suggestions.
