Windows 10 Finally Getting a Feature to Reset Passwords from the Lock Screen

Windows 10 users will finally be allowed to reset their account passwords from the lock screen, with Microsoft currently testing a feature that would enable password recovery with help from digital assistant Cortana.

Available in the latest preview build of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the new password recovery option is displayed alongside the sign-in options link.

As MSPU notes, Microsoft has designed the whole process to be very intuitive, once users click on the option that reads “I forgot my password,” they are provided with a wizard guiding them throughout the entire process, with Cortana asking for password recovery information, including secondary email, phone number, or Microsoft Authenticator verification code.

Once these details are provided, the verification process is complete and Microsoft allows you to choose a new account password, finally letting you log in to your Windows 10 device.
Coming in the Fall Creators Update
Currently in preview, the feature is projected to become available to all users with the release of the Fall Creators Update in September this year.

Resetting passwords for Microsoft Accounts configured in Windows 10 is something that users have been asking for a long time. Without knowing the password and another device connected to the Internet around, it was pretty much impossible to log in to the desktop, so it’s good that Microsoft’s finally adding this feature to its operating system.

Microsoft has already gotten pretty close to finalizing the Fall Creators Update, and the company is getting ready to kick off the last Bug Bash before the public launch. This means most of the new features have already been shipped, and the upcoming builds would be mostly focused on fixing bugs.

The Bug Bash will kick off this coming Friday and will run for one full week, with Microsoft to then analyze feedback and look into the features that it needs to improve before the public launch.

@Andytay70: Assumed yes, since local accounts that registered in Windows will need a third party tool to reset the password. (We all know that everything is bind of security reason to avoid exploits)

I must confess that I am not a fan of password recovery features, specially not for the operating system!
in general the recovery options lower the security posture of the logon security. For example having silly questions about former pets...

If possible I aways refuse to use this...
