Hello,

Without any programs running physical memory is around 80% on startup. Tried selective startup, disabled all except for Microsoft services, but the physical memory usage remained the same. I suspected it's a hardware problem. The computer has two memory slots. I turned off the computer and removed one memory from slot, and rebooted the system, then tried the same with the other slot, but in both cases the memory usage problem remained, so I guess it's a software problem after all.

Operating System
Windows 7
Are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system?

It seems to me now it's around 70%-80%, even on startup, I still experience slowdowns. The computer is an AMD Athlon II X2 215 Processor, 2.0 GB RAM. I know it's not much, but I suppose it should be enough for browsing, shouldn't it?

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    icon and select
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finishes FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

It seems better. Physical memory is between 35-40% on startup. Firefox seems to be the problematic case, it starts slow and when it runs the usage is around 80-90%. Guess I'll have to update it (I'm using the 56.0 version) or use another browser. Thanks for the help!

Hello,
The problem resurfaced. I've downloaded a portable version of Mozilla Firefox, but without any programs running physical memory is around 80% on startup again.
