"Minecraft" for Xbox One will be available for download this Friday, Microsoft announced today, and owners of the Xbox 360 version of the game will get a significant discount on the title.

For those who bought "Minecraft" on Xbox 360, the game will cost just $4.99 to download; for those who are buying it on an Xbox console for the first time, it will cost $19.99. The discount applies to Xbox 360 owners who purchased the game either as a physical copy at retail or as a digital copy via Xbox Live. Additionally, all content purchased for the Xbox 360 game will be free to re-download on Xbox One.

Microsoft's announcement notes that game worlds are "up to 36 times larger than on Xbox 360," and the game will run natively at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second.

Friday's release will only be for the digital version of the game through the Xbox Store, however; Microsoft states that "select retailers will sell the full game Digital Download Code and the full game packaged disc will be on retail store shelves globally this holiday." Microsoft did not state if the retail version of the game will differ in any substantial way from the digital version.

The "Minecraft" price reduction follows a similar move Microsoft made for "Halo: Spartan Assault" on Xbox One. For that release, those who purchased the game on Windows or Windows Phone could buy it on Xbox One for $4.99 instead of the standard $14.99 price. It has yet to be announced whether the Xbox 360 game "State of Decay" will receive a similar price reduction when it arrives on Xbox One next year.
