Those of you in the Xbox Preview program might want to stay away from the latest update for a few days as numerous users are reporting a number of significant problems with this latest preview build.

Folks enrolled in the Preview program for Xbox One know that getting pre-release software often comes with unforeseen problems. But this latest update, which is now being pushed to users, seems to have an unusual number of problems with it.

First up, numerous users both on Reddit and on the official preview forums are reporting problems installing the update from the get go. The process simply fails midway and users end up stuck in an update loop.

A second problem that also seems to be widespread is the disconnection from Xbox Live after the update is installed successfully. Users are greeted by a message that “it’s time to update” their consoles but since they just updated, there’s no new OS so the update fails; users then have to stay in offline mode.

The good news is that both of these problems seems to be fixed by power cycling the consoles a few times and making sure you’re doing a cold boot when trying to install an update. The bad news is that this doesn’t work every time: some users are still stuck updating and for others the disconnection problem comes back eventually.

Microsoft hasn’t commented on these problems just yet nor have they pulled the update – which was supposedly almost ready for public release.

However, we’re sure they’re aware of the problem and working to fix it; we’ll update this article as soon as we get more info.

Microsoft are slacking on internal testing / QA, before pushing updates. It's like the Early Access program on Steam, buy me now, but don't expect the game to release soon. $$$ required.

Pre-release software shouldn't be released for consoles, imo.
