Wonder if this means they are planning future updates for the product.
It's about time. Nothing for nearly a year. Strange how there would regularly be updated versions, sometimes several in a month, but nothing since August last year. I don't buy the line that it didn't need further updating, because most regular users of ZAL can clearly see it is not as good as it used to be and it just doesn't make sense that development just stopped so suddenly. Obviously something pretty serious happened at Zemana - I think there was talk about a number of key staff leaving, and I forget the name of it but they were making a big fanfare a while ago about some fantastic new product but which was never heard of again. Not the company it was and Zemana Antilogger is not the product it was.

It was Zemana Antimalware Ultimate.

And yes, indeed this software seems to be abandoned. Last month I was surfing on certain torrent sites and a DNS hijacker had crept into the machine. All requests using chrome would end into a network error. Scanned it multiple times with ZAL, but nothing got intercepted.

I casually scanned it with Malwarebytes, it detected a total of 168 files (PUPs, bitcoin miners, DNS hijackers, etc.)

That scan finally fixed my PC

That doesn't surprise me at all and it shows how far ZAL has fallen. Not that long ago many people here spoke about ZAM and ZAL as clearly better than MBAM and I thought the same and if you look at various reviews up against MBAM up until about a year ago ZAM/ZAL win nearly every time.

I actually started a thread about ZAL being abandoned a while ago (link below) and @Overkill contacted them to try and find out why and you can see the nonsense they came back with in his post, that virus definitions are still updated but because the program itself is quite stable now it doesn't need updating. So the only reason you update a product is to make it more stable. What a load of rubbish:
Zemana AntiLogger - no new version since August 2017

I have a lifetime license for ZAL Premium but I never use it now because I think it's more of a liability than an asset as your experience showed.

Decline started last year, I was expecting a new version of the Zemana for Android, and instead I saw a survey into their product; Zemana AntiMalware is now rebranded to various products like MalwareFox... I had it installed until some months ago, then I take final decision to remove it, I liked their product, and I am sorry of whatever problem happened to them, I hope they will regain their position in the field. (y)

I think they actually support their EndPoint product, even if on this site I little heard of it...

Zemana says they will regain user trust by near the end of the 2018. We can just wait and see. :giggle:
So they obviously realise they've messed up. They may wish to regain user trust by the end of 2018 but I think many people justifiably have already made up their minds about them. Personally I don't see them turning things around. They had class leading products and were well respected and they blew it by treating their customers with contempt and like idiots who would believe rubbish like their products don't need updating because they're quite stable now, and wouldn't notice that their products were falling behind the competition such as Malwarebytes who are continuously developing theirs.

I don't like saying this but I have licenses for ZAM & ZAL & neither are on any of my PC's. I just felt they fell by the wayside from being a good product. Not sure how they are going to recover the situation & why they let the lack of trust occur in the first place? Just my opinion.

At this point in the companies history, with the CLOUD crap, I can't help but wonder if they aren't just collecting INFORMATION and possibly spying on people. They can bankrupt and take that information with them to use later!

That being said, this is the danger of using a CLOUD Antivirus. In order for that Cloud Antivirus to work they have access to SCAN/UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING!

Just my opinion folks. It's like subscribing to your cable company or streaming or whatever service you have, if you were to watch some porn, it is on record and can be used against you later on if someone searches that far. So keep your PRIVATES OFF THE NET!

Zemana is not a viable Antivirus/Antimalware in my opinion at this point considering the multiple reasons I mentioned above and others thoughts in this thread and across the internet : IN MY OPINION!

Completely agree. In fact, as I said in an earlier post, I would go further and say, due to how they have totally neglected their products for a long time now, I think they are now a liability rather than an asset and I would advise people to think seriously about whether they should be using such a product.

And I don't know what Zemana hope to achieve by this latest giveaway. The product still hasn't been updated for ages so it's going to get the same sort of slating that it has for some time now.

The line of thinking about updates for security products, that at some extent passed by their support, is of course wrong by the facts:

Proofs:

CVE - CVE-2018-6593

CVE - CVE-2018-6606

Exploit

Exploit

SouhailHammou/Exploits

Every software, except some scenarios, need to be updated, exp considering that two CVE 2018 are present...

And because MalwareFox=Zemana AntiMalware, I am pretty confident they are affected too,

An issue was discovered in MalwareFox AntiMalware 2.74.0.150. Improper access control in zam32.sys and zam64.sys allows a non-privileged process to register itself with the driver by sending IOCTL 0x80002010 and then using IOCTL 0x8000204C to \\.\ZemanaAntiMalware to elevate privileges.

Now, to be honest there was a beta of ZAM floating around early this year, I guess if someone tried if also that is affected by this vulnerability, pretty sure the old stable is affected.

@dragongate888 You know, I have worked with Zemana a bit localizing both the Desktop and Android version, reporting bugs, false positives; hence I have lifetime licenses for all the products of them, and I ended removing all of them, because of the lack of updates, I don't know how bad is their situation, but in my opinion sometime is better make a public statement and admit the truth, the product both the Desktop and the Mobile for Android are currently being rebranded, even if their signature database is probably still valid, as you saw there are other reasons why I doubt them, and I said as someone that spent weeks working on it.

If you go back on another forum of about 2014-2015 you see who helped them being at that position, in my opinion something passed between them and another product, and by passed I mean "patents", so the development was interrupted, that of course is only my inference; probably a sum of negative events created the actual situations, nonetheless giving away lifetime licenses, even if is not that the cause.

Because about 2-3 years ago, was the top antimalware, and even predicted the ZAM Ultimate, that never come; if all was good they shouldn't need to rebrand their product with other names, so the most probably cause is some patent pending actions on their products, you know lawyers and so on...

I honestly don't like that parts, but happens in this industry...

Of course this is my opinion.
