So with that Zonealarm released they also updated the engine version of Kaspersky 2012. Since they used it until now.

ZoneAlarm needs to fix the link for the free firewall, I downloaded it which even on the installer said it was ZoneAlarm Free but it installed ZoneAlarm Security Suite 30-day trial instead and disabled Avast.

I know I downloaded the correct file, this must be some kind of error or trick to get users to try ZoneAlarm Security Suite.

Here is the file that is listed as ZoneAlarm Free- http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/1081_en/zaSuiteSetupWeb_100_240_000_en.exe (not the free firewall, this is ZoneAlam Security Suite)

That is the only link on ZoneAlarm's homepage for the free firewall, I'm guessing that they have either discontinued it or didn't add the correct file.

Thanks.:D

I've downloaded the "web installer" allegedly for ZA Free from here however when the installation process was completed.. I had a a copy of Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite on my virtual machine...
So I've tried to find a way to download the free firewall from Zone Alarm and after some time I've managed to find a page ...and this is it - link ,however it seem like ZoneAlarm didn't updated yet their Free Firewall to the 2012 version. :)

It's confirmed ZoneAlarm didn't launched yet the 2012 version for their Free Firewall - http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/information/znalm/zaReleaseHistory.html
The latest ZoneAlarm Free Firewall release is 9.2.102.000.

I have upgraded this and did the test at spycar and it stopped every exploit. So I am satisfied. Took a while to get use to the new interface, but works for me.

Two days ago I've installed Zone Alarm Extreme Security on my testing machine.I have used the previous version also so I'm familiar with Zone Alarm.
The 2012 build brings a new GUI and some minor changes however when it comes to major security improvements I can't find any major update.
Zone Alarm is still using the Kaspersky antivirus engine and so their detection rate is very high.The two-way firewalll is solid and they have a good integrated Application Control system.
What I don't understand is why Zone Alarm doesn't yet support Chrome,because this browser is world-wide used and it's not exactly new.......
Here is why I Chrome support is need it.....Zone Alarm ES and IS comes with a really usefull and smart feature "Advanced Download Protection" which will scan first with the antivirus engine , every new download and if ZA can't be sure if the download is safe or not ,will promt you to do an "Advance Scan" basically will open the file in a virtual environment and it will analize heuristically and how it behaves.
The "Advanced Download Protection" is a really smart feature which can save your PC from an infection.

eg.
I've used a malicious link from malc0de.com and I've loaded this link in Chrome and Firefox ... And here is the main difference.

Google Chrome 13 Dev version.

Saving the malware sample...
[attachment=397]
The file was saved in the "Downloads" folder,so I've did an on-deman scan.See results...
[attachment=398]

Firefox 4
Saving the malware sample...
[attachment=399]
The Advanced Download Protection feature kicks in and the file is automatically scanned by ZA
[attachment=400]
ZA asks me to do an "Advanced Scan" ...so I do it.
[attachment=401]
"Advanced Scan" results.
[attachment=402]

Would Zone Alarm detect and remove the file if I were using Chrome and I would run the file...Most likely ...Yes...But if I'm paying for a suite I would like to have the same level of protection as a Firefox user.

As for the resource usage,I find Zone Alarm Extreme Security to be light on my system.let's say 4/5.However each system has it's own specifications so it's a good idea to use the 30 days trail and see how it behaves on your system.

It was a big help with Advanced Download Protection, as it will give you an advance scan to make sure if its safe or not than the regular scan. So hopefully Chrome will be compatible.

i have been using Zone alarm antivirus and firewall and i really like this new version. It feels lighter than the previus one. The only problem i had was with the security toolbar which does not work properly on firefox mozilla 5 but it is ok as i do not need it anyway.
the funny thing i found was that they have the same price for Firewall pro and Antivirus but thats just fine for me as i really wanted to try the firewall and a friend of mine bought me the ZA Antivirus. t is just ok
best regards Gery

i have found v10x of zonealarm to be a major degradation of the product.
the testing is insufficient,
forcefield is still (as it has been from the beginning)
an unstable product with excessive overhead.
the choice by checkpoint to install forcefield without permission
(the deselect of the option has no effect) is unacceptable.
also forcefield interferes with firefox and usr modems.
the browser toolbar "pushing" ms orfice is insulting,
i do not want my security sw pushing product on me!
it is my view and opinion that zonealarm v10x has become malware.
i am very sad to have to make that statement
as i have been a loyal (& paying) user since version 2x.
i am currently looking for a replacement product
for all my computers and the computers i support

ZA Free is also available. It burrows the new interface from the payed 2012 products. Of course some features are not available in the free version so they appear disabled in the interface. ZoneAlarm Free offers a firewall, application control , anti-phishing, identity protection and 2 GB of free online storage for backup. Note that the “application control” allows you to allow/deny network traffic to/from an application or service, it is not a full behavior blocker or HIPS. As for the toolbar.... I never installed it. ZoneAlarm Free is a simple firewall and the new interface makes it even easier to use. It can be a replacement for the firewall built into Windows for users that don’t require a behavior blocker or HIPS, but that's pretty much it...
