Lalia EXPOSED: .lalia Files, RECOVERY_INFO.txt, and a 72-Hour qTox Clock

You open Documents the way you did yesterday. The first photo should still be 1.jpg. The vacation shot should still be vacation.jpg. The invoice should still be invoice-2026.pdf. The tax sheet should still be taxes.xlsx. Instead every familiar name has a second ending tacked on. 1.jpg is now 1.jpg.lalia. A small text file named RECOVERY_INFO.txt is sitting in the same folder, as if it has always belonged there.
That is the trap, not a glitch. The files still look like yours. They do not open. The text file talks like a recovery desk. It is a storefront. The people who wrote it already finished the lock. The second half of the job is getting you to start a private chat before you have talked to anyone who is actually on your side.
This page is for the moment those names appear. It is a map of the folder in front of you, so RECOVERY_INFO.txt does not become your incident plan. It is not a tour of ransomware in general. It is about this strain, the one that leaves .lalia on the end and a note that wants you in qTox.

Overview
The first tell is the rename. Lalia ransomware keeps the old name and the old extension, then appends .lalia. In the sample used for this page, 1.jpg becomes 1.jpg.lalia. vacation.jpg becomes vacation.jpg.lalia. invoice-2026.pdf becomes invoice-2026.pdf.lalia. taxes.xlsx becomes taxes.xlsx.lalia. family.mp4 becomes family.mp4.lalia. You can still read what the file used to be. You cannot open it.
Windows may now call the type a LALIA file and offer you a useless “choose an app” box. An app cannot talk the bytes back into a JPEG. Double-clicking 1.jpg.lalia does not open the photo. Spreadsheet software does not open taxes.xlsx.lalia. A video player does not open family.mp4.lalia. The listing still has one object per file. The shock lands because the names still look like yours. The lock is in the content, not in the label.
The second tell is the note. After the files are locked, the malware drops RECOVERY_INFO.txt into the same folders. The filename is built to sound like a help file. Recovery. Info. Plenty of real software drops a text file. This one uses that habit against you. It is meant to be the first thing you double-click when the folder already looks wrong.
The published note opens with ATTENTION! and says the files were encrypted by LALIA. It claims the data was already exfiltrated. It tells you not to decrypt the files yourself. It tells you not to use recovery tools, not to rename the locked copies, and not to go to law enforcement. It offers a sample decrypt. It gives you 72 hours to make contact on qTox. After that deadline, it says, the data will be sold or published.
The contact door is qTox. The published sample note prints this qTox ID: 7F21082F19B6EB818083A9920D654533FB9CA3AC99A6881119F75E493AD5A11B0998CA80B291. That string is the ID printed in that note. This page will not invent a second one. The note tells you to download qTox from the GitHub qTox releases page. It leaves a field labeled “Your Chat ID for verification” blank. You are supposed to fill that blank after you install their messenger.
The note does not print a ransom $ amount. It does not print a wallet. The missing number is not mercy. It is a blank invoice. The first conversation is how they fill it in, after you have already opened qTox and pasted the ID from RECOVERY_INFO.txt.
That is the whole costume. A locked folder of .lalia names. A RECOVERY_INFO.txt file that talks like a recovery brief. An ATTENTION line. An exfil claim. A ban on self-help, recovery tools, renaming, and law enforcement. A sample decrypt. A 72-hour qTox clock. A printed ID. A blank Chat ID. A GitHub download instruction. A threat to sell or publish after the deadline. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain. There is no reason to open that qTox ID today because a ransom note told you to.
The .lalia name is the first warning
Most lockers pick an extension so you notice the change in seconds. Lalia uses .lalia. The extra cruelty is how readable the listing stays. You do not have to decode anything. You can still see 1.jpg inside 1.jpg.lalia. You can still see the invoice year. You can still see the word taxes. The familiar words are still in the folder. The files are not familiar anymore.
Do not treat that readable name as a fix. Do not strip .lalia off the end and expect Photos or Excel to open the file. Do not run a bulk “extension fixer” you found in an ad. The name is a label. The lock is in the content. Editing the label can make a later trusted tool have a harder time matching the file to what it was. Leave the locked copies as they are until you have a clean machine and a plan that does not start in a criminal chat.
The same readable names also make a later scam easier. Anyone who sees a pile of .lalia files can pretend they already “have your case.” They can quote 1.jpg.lalia back to you. They can mention RECOVERY_INFO.txt so they sound close. They can offer a paid unlock. The extension is branding. The leftover original name is branding. None of that is a hint that the file can be renamed back to normal.
RECOVERY_INFO.txt is a sales floor, not a help file
The note is named to be opened. Recovery. Info. Those two words make it look like leftover paperwork from a repair tool. A generic README might make you pause. A file that sounds like a brief feels like instructions you are supposed to follow. Paperwork is easier to obey than a threat.
This page will not invent another filename to put next to that note. The sample on disk is RECOVERY_INFO.txt. If you are writing the incident down, copy the name you actually have. Do not tidy it. Do not shorten it to “the readme.” Do not type a guessed string into qTox so a stranger can “look you up.” The filename is evidence. It is not a password, and it is not a claim ticket you redeem in a chat.
The body of the note is a script. ATTENTION. Encrypted by LALIA. Data already taken. Do not decrypt yourself. Do not use recovery tools. Do not rename. Do not go to law enforcement. Here is a sample decrypt. You have 72 hours. Contact us on qTox. Download the messenger from GitHub. Fill in your Chat ID. After the deadline the copies get sold or published. Each line has a job. The ATTENTION line is there so you feel late. The encryption line is there so you feel outmatched. The exfil line is there so even a backup feels incomplete. The bans are there so you do not try anything they do not control. The sample is the handshake. The clock is the closer. The messenger is checkout.
ATTENTION! is a costume, not a status report
The published note opens with ATTENTION! and names LALIA as the crew that encrypted the files. That voice is borrowed from a help desk and a warning banner at the same time. ALL CAPS at the top of a .txt file is meant to stop your hand. Naming the brand in the first breath is meant to make the rest of the flyer feel official. If LALIA already “owns” the folder, then the only adult move is to read the rest of RECOVERY_INFO.txt as policy.
A ransom note is not an incident report. The people who locked 1.jpg.lalia have a reason to sound like the only remaining vendor. They want you to skip the slow questions. Which machine actually locked. Which shares were mounted. Whether a backup is offline. Whether the same note landed on every PC or only on the one you are staring at. Those questions still matter even if the flyer shouts ATTENTION.
Treat the line as pressure. Do not treat it as a completed investigation. Do not repeat “encrypted by LALIA” into qTox as if you are confirming their work. Do not forward it to a coworker as proof that every office file is already lost. The files you can see, the ones ending in .lalia, are the ones you know are locked. The rest is a claim printed in RECOVERY_INFO.txt.
“Data exfiltrated” is a second bill, not a receipt
The note claims the data was already exfiltrated. That sentence is meant to end the argument in their favor. If copies already left the building, then a local restore starts to feel useless. If copies already left the building, then waiting overnight feels like a leak. If copies already left the building, then the only adult move is to write on qTox before 72 hours expire.
A leak claim can be true. Crews do steal mail, payroll, and scans before they lock files. A leak claim can also be a bluff copied from the last job. Either way, opening qTox does not give you a receipt that the copies were deleted. The CISA StopRansomware Guide is blunt about this kind of squeeze. Paying does not ensure the files come back, does not ensure the systems are clean, and does not ensure the data stays unpublished.
Believe the risk enough to treat it as a possible breach. Tell counsel and your incident lead if this is a company. Do not believe the promise enough to buy a deletion you cannot verify. There is no named public leak site in the facts used for this page, and this page will not invent one. A missing leak blog is not proof the copies were never taken. It is also not a reason to start a chat.
“Do not decrypt yourself” is a monopoly, not advice
The note tells you not to decrypt the files yourself. Read that again as a sales line. If you are forbidden from trying, their qTox ID is the only shop. The warning is not a lab result. It is a fence around the storefront. People who just found vacation.jpg.lalia are already tempted to try a rename, a repair tool, or a “Lalia decryptor” ad. The note wants that temptation to feel dangerous, so the chat feels safe.
Random decryptor ads are a real second scam, and you should not run those either. That does not make the criminals your IT department. A trusted restore path, when you have one, is not “decrypting yourself” they get to veto. An offline copy they never touched is not theirs to poison with a sentence. The note wants you to treat every option except qTox as sabotage. That is how a monopoly talks, not how a recovery team talks.
Recovery tools, renaming, and law enforcement bans are fences
The published note stacks three more bans on top of “do not decrypt yourself.” Do not use recovery tools. Do not rename the locked files. Do not go to law enforcement. Together those lines try to isolate you. Isolation is the product. If tools are forbidden, you will not search. If renaming is forbidden, you will not experiment. If law enforcement is forbidden, you will not file a report that leaves a timestamp they do not control.
The rename ban is the one that sounds almost technical. Editing 1.jpg.lalia back to 1.jpg will not open the photo. It can also make a later trusted decryptor have a harder time matching the object. Leaving the name alone is good practice for your own sake. Obeying that line because criminals printed it is still obedience. Keep the names as evidence. Do not keep them because RECOVERY_INFO.txt scared you out of a report.
The law-enforcement ban is the giveaway. A real recovery desk does not tell you to hide a crime. A help file does not warn you away from a police report. That sentence exists so you stay in a private messenger, on an ID they printed, with a 72-hour clock only they can “enforce.” Treat it as a confession about who wrote the note. Then ignore it.
The sample decrypt is a handshake, not a contract
The note offers a sample decrypt. That offer sounds reasonable. It is one of the oldest lines in this business. Unlocking a junk PDF does not unlock the payroll folder. It does not prove the stolen copies will be deleted. It does not prove a later tool will finish the job. It proves someone on the other end can open a file they locked, which you already knew when you saw .lalia.
The test also gives them more of your data, and it gives them the chat they wanted. A “worthless” file can still hold a client name, an address, or an internal path. You do not owe them a sample. You do not need their proof. If a trusted decryptor ever appears, it will come from a project like No More Ransom, not from a qTox ID that just locked your share.
The 72-hour clock is pressure
The note gives you 72 hours to make contact on qTox. There is no independent clock. There is no printed $ amount that starts ticking. There is no public ledger where you can watch a deadline expire. The timer starts when you read the file, which is exactly when you are least able to think. Seventy-two hours is long enough to feel official and short enough to stop you from sleeping, asking a friend, or reading a page like this one twice.
Urgency is the cheapest tool in this trade. A three-day window sounds specific, so it feels real. It is specific the way a fake shipping countdown is specific. The people who set it can wait, raise the pressure, or vanish. If you write at hour 10, they can still say you are late. If you write at hour 80, they can say the copies are already moving. There is no referee.
Your job in those 72 hours is not to beat the clock. Your job is to stop the spread and to keep a clean copy of what you still have. The files are already locked. Another 72 hours of panic will not change the bytes in vacation.jpg.lalia.
The printed qTox ID is a storefront, not a rescue
The published sample note prints this qTox ID: 7F21082F19B6EB818083A9920D654533FB9CA3AC99A6881119F75E493AD5A11B0998CA80B291. That is the ID printed in that note. It is not a new ID invented here. It is not a key. It is not a case number that proves they still have a decryptor. It is a long string sitting in a text file so you will copy it, paste it, and feel already in a ticket queue.
Do not open that qTox ID. Do not paste it into a messenger to “see if it looks real.” Looking real is the job of a contact string. A long hex blob feels technical. Technical feels official. Official feels like the only remaining aisle. Writing the first message does not start a warranty. It starts a negotiation you cannot enforce, on a platform they chose because it is hard to unwind.
Anyone can copy that ID into a second note. Anyone can stand up a lookalike after a wave of .lalia files. Copycats will quote ATTENTION. They will quote the 72-hour line. They will ask for a sample decrypt. They will ask you to fill the blank Chat ID. The original operators and the copycats want the same first step from you: open the chat.
The blank Chat ID is a ticket they want you to fill
The published note leaves “Your Chat ID for verification” blank. That empty field is not an unfinished draft. It is a form. Help desks use ticket numbers. Shipping sites use tracking numbers. Ransom notes borrow the same habit. A blank Chat ID does not mean a key is waiting. It means they want you to install qTox, generate an ID, and paste it back so they can sort you in their queue.
Filling that blank is unpaid labor for the people who locked the files. It also gives a later fake helper a string to greet you with. A stranger who later says “send me your Chat ID” has read the same RECOVERY_INFO.txt you did, or has already been in the thread. That is not a sign you found the official recovery team. That is a sign someone is shopping the same note.
If you are writing the incident down for IT, for an insurer, or for a report, copy the blank field as a blank field. Note that the flyer asked for a Chat ID and did not print one. That is evidence of the script. It is not a coupon. Do not create a qTox identity to “activate” anything.
“Download qTox from GitHub” is a checkout instruction
The note tells you to download qTox from the GitHub qTox releases page. The human link it is pointing at is github.com/qTox/qTox/releases. Naming a real project is part of the costume. GitHub feels safer than a random installer. A releases page feels like the official door. The people who wrote RECOVERY_INFO.txt want you in their messenger. They picked a download path that does not look like malware.
This page is not asking you to install qTox. This page is not asking you to open a chat. The fact that the note cites GitHub does not make the chat a help desk. A real software project can be named in a criminal flyer without becoming their vendor. You do not need qTox to recover a photo. You do not need it to file a report. You do not need it to talk to your own IT person.
Do not download the messenger today because RECOVERY_INFO.txt told you to. Do not treat a GitHub releases page as proof that LALIA is a support team. The download is the hallway into the 72-hour clock. Stay out of the hallway.
“Sold or published after the deadline” is a threat you cannot audit
After the 72 hours, the note says the data will be sold or published. Permanent is the mood that sentence is going for. People will pay a bad price to avoid a leak. People will also send a first qTox message they did not want to send, just to “stop the sale.” You cannot verify a sale that happens on their side. You cannot see a folder get posted. You cannot see whether copies existed for your files at all.
A threat to publish something invisible is a threat you are meant to swallow whole. The files on disk remain 1.jpg.lalia and vacation.jpg.lalia either way. Their countdown does not unlock a single byte at hour 71, and it does not prove a byte becomes public at hour 73. Treat the line as pressure. Handle the possible breach with people who work for you. Do not handle it by opening the ID printed in the note.
How The Scam Works
You do not need a lab notebook to understand the trap. You need the order the victim sees. The renamed files, the note, the ATTENTION line, the exfil claim, the bans, the sample decrypt, the 72-hour clock, the printed qTox ID, the blank Chat ID, the GitHub download line, and the sell-or-publish threat arrive as one package. Here is that package in the order it usually lands.
1. The lock keeps the old name so you recognize the loss
The first move is the rename you can see in Explorer. Lalia leaves the original filename in place and appends .lalia. 1.jpg is still readable inside 1.jpg.lalia. invoice-2026.pdf is still readable inside invoice-2026.pdf.lalia. That is not a courtesy. Recognition is the product. If the files became random blocks with no names, you might delay. If the names are still yours, you feel the loss immediately, and you look for the file that explains it.
The same listing trains you to believe a small edit could reverse it. The old extension is still sitting there. Photos still “should” open a JPG. Excel still “should” open an XLSX. The extra ending looks like a mistake you can clip off. That is why people try a rename before they try anything else. The lock is not in the last six characters. Clipping .lalia off taxes.xlsx.lalia does not give you a spreadsheet. It gives you a damaged object with a prettier name.
2. RECOVERY_INFO.txt turns a break-in into a help file
Once the folder looks wrong, the note has to look like the answer. RECOVERY_INFO.txt is built for that moment. It is a .txt file, so Windows opens it in Notepad. It does not look like an installer. It does not look like a second payload. It looks like instructions. Recovery. Info. You are already in a case. You should already be reading.
A help file is allowed to tell you what not to do. A help file is allowed to name a support channel. A help file is allowed to warn you that waiting will make things worse. The note borrows that voice. It is not support. It is the operators introducing themselves as the only vendor left, using the folder they just broke as the waiting room.
3. ATTENTION! frames LALIA as the only vendor
The note opens with ATTENTION! and says the files were encrypted by LALIA. Brand first. Panic first. Then the rest of the flyer can talk like policy. If the brand already owns the incident, then qTox is not a criminal chat. It is “their” channel. That is the trick. A name in a text file is not a company. It is a label on a lock.
Do not spend the first hour arguing with the brand. Spend it on the folder. The files ending in .lalia are the evidence. The note is the sales copy. Naming LALIA out loud in a messenger they own only helps them sort the thread.
4. The exfil line does the second squeeze
After the lock, the note spends a best sentence on the data it says it already stole. Encrypted is the first bill. Exfiltrated is the second. Even a shop that can restore files from backup still feels that sentence in the stomach. That is why it is there. The lock hurts the files you can see. The leak claim hurts the files you cannot see.
There is no public $ figure printed as a sticker price in the facts for this strain. The note does not have to quote a bitcoin total. It can tell you to write on qTox. That missing number is not mercy. It lets the crew set a price after they see who you are. A clinic, a contractor, and a family photo folder can all get a different ask. Inventing a $ amount here would only help the costume.
5. The bans try to own every other door
Do not decrypt yourself. Do not use recovery tools. Do not rename. Do not go to law enforcement. Four bans, one goal: the only remaining action is contact. If other tools are forbidden, their chat is the only shop. If renaming is forbidden, the locked copies become too scary to touch even for evidence photos. If law enforcement is forbidden, a report starts to feel like a provocation.
A trusted restore path is not theirs to veto. A report at the FBI IC3 desk is not a mistake the note gets to cancel. The CISA ransomware reporting page is not a recovery tool they can outlaw. The bans are a monopoly talking. They are not a lab notebook.
6. A sample decrypt starts the thread
The sample decrypt is the handshake. It looks like fairness. It is a way to start the qTox thread and to collect more samples. An unlocked holiday photo does not mean the accounting database will return. It does not mean the leaked copies are gone. It means someone on the other end can open a file they locked.
If you are tempted to send a “worthless” file, stop. Worthless to you is still a path name, a client line, or a header the crew did not have. Proof, if it ever comes, should come from a trusted decryptor project, not from the ID printed in RECOVERY_INFO.txt.
7. Seventy-two hours tries to rush the first message
Seventy-two hours to make contact is the closer. It does not ask you to pay yet. It asks you to write. Writing feels cheaper than paying. Writing feels reversible. Writing is how they get you into qTox, where a $ figure can appear for the first time. The note never had to print a ransom amount. The clock does the work of one.
There is no referee who checks whether 72 hours have actually passed. If you write at hour 71 or hour 73, they can still answer, ignore you, or invent a surcharge. The window is a mood. It is there so you skip the slow steps: a clean machine, a real report, a second opinion that is not a Tox chat.
8. The printed ID and the blank Chat ID are the checkout counter
The published sample prints 7F21082F19B6EB818083A9920D654533FB9CA3AC99A6881119F75E493AD5A11B0998CA80B291 as the qTox ID. That is the ID in the note, not a new one. Next to it sits a blank “Your Chat ID for verification” field. One string is theirs. One blank is yours. Together they look like a ticket window. Paste our ID. Fill in yours. Then the 72-hour clock has something to attach to.
Do not open that qTox ID. Do not generate a Chat ID to fill their form. A handle is cheap to copy. After a wave of .lalia files, copycats will stand in the same doorway. They will quote the deadline. They will quote ATTENTION. They will ask for a sample. The original operators and the copycats want the same first step: open the chat.
9. GitHub is named so the install feels safe
The note points at the GitHub qTox releases page, github.com/qTox/qTox/releases. That is a human link, not a disguised one. Naming a real project is useful to them. It makes the next click feel like software support instead of a ransom channel. You can recognize that instruction without carrying it out. The download is how a locked folder becomes a private chat. The private chat is how a $ demand appears.
10. “Sold or published” is the cliff after the clock
If 72 hours is the nudge, sold or published is the cliff. The note says that after the deadline the data will be sold or published. People will rush a first message to avoid that sentence. You cannot audit either claim from inside qTox. Maybe they still have copies. Maybe they never did. The files on disk stay locked either way. Their countdown does not become a leak blog just because you refused to chat.
Handle a possible breach with counsel and your incident lead. Do not handle it by performing for the flyer. Do not send a test file to prove you are “the real victim.” Do not keep the infected session open so you can “make the 72-hour window.” The line is theater. Treat it as theater, and still treat stolen data as a real risk for the people who actually work for you.
11. Contact closes nothing
Everything in the note points to one action: make contact on qTox. The costume, the bans, the sample, the clock, the printed ID, the blank Chat ID, and the leak threat all serve that action. Contact is how a locked folder becomes a negotiation. Negotiation is how a $ demand appears. Payment is how the next victim is funded. None of those steps restore a network you can trust.
Paying is not a guarantee. That sentence is not a slogan. It is the recorded experience of victims across ransomware families. The people who send the note can take the money and disappear. They can send a tool that only unlocks a few files. They can come back later and lock the same machine again. A qTox thread makes that outcome easier, not harder. You cannot leave a review on a criminal ID.
The No More Ransom project puts the rule in plain language. Paying is not guaranteed to bring the files back, and you should not pay. That is the line on the official landing page run with Europol and the project partners. Use that page. Do not use RECOVERY_INFO.txt as a vendor.
12. A second shop offers the same miracle
After a ransomware incident, search results fill up with companies that say they can decrypt Lalia or “all .lalia files.” Some of those shops are ordinary overpriced consultants. Plenty are a second scam. They will quote the note pattern back to you. They will mention RECOVERY_INFO.txt so they sound close to the case. They will mention the 72-hour qTox line as if they already called the original crew. They will ask for a sample file, a remote-access session, or a deposit.
The second scam has a friendly website and a case manager. It may even open one junk file, because anyone who is in contact with the original criminals can borrow the same demo. Then the price rises, the chat dies, or the remote tool installs more malware. Quoting the printed qTox ID in their sales copy does not make them the people who designed the lock. Quoting ATTENTION does not make them a decryptor.
A real public decryptor, when one exists, shows up on an official project page that already existed before your incident. It does not need a deposit in cryptocurrency. It does not need qTox. It does not need you to fill a blank Chat ID. If the pitch is “we can decrypt, pay us first,” you are still in the market the ransomware created. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain.
What To Do If Your Files End in .lalia
Do not open that qTox ID. Do not paste 7F21082F19B6EB818083A9920D654533FB9CA3AC99A6881119F75E493AD5A11B0998CA80B291 into a messenger. That string is the ID printed in the published sample note, not an invitation. Do not download qTox from GitHub because RECOVERY_INFO.txt told you to. Do not fill the blank “Your Chat ID for verification” field. Do not send a sample file for their decrypt demo. Do not treat the 72-hour contact line as a sale you have to catch. Do not treat the “sold or published” line as a fuse you can see.
Do not pay a $ figure they name after you arrive. Do not invent a payment the note never printed. If you already sent a message before you found this page, stop there. Do not send a test file. Do not pay a deposit to “hold the copies” before the deadline.

When the download finishes, open your Downloads folder and double-click the MBSetup file. If Windows shows a User Account Control pop-up, click “Yes” to allow the installation.

Export the files that you want to recover.
Once you have found a copy of the original file or folder, right-click on it and the select “Export”. A window will prompt you where you want to save the file or folder.
Keep every .lalia name exactly as it is. Do not bulk-rename 1.jpg.lalia back to 1.jpg, or vacation.jpg.lalia back to vacation.jpg, or invoice-2026.pdf.lalia back to a normal PDF, or taxes.xlsx.lalia back to a spreadsheet, or family.mp4.lalia back to a video. Stripping the extra ending is not a repair. It can make a later trusted tool worse, not better. The original name is already sitting in front of .lalia. You do not need to edit it to know what you lost.
Keep RECOVERY_INFO.txt with the locked files. Do not “clean up” every copy of the note. Do not invent a second qTox ID if you are writing the incident down. The published sample ID is 7F21082F19B6EB818083A9920D654533FB9CA3AC99A6881119F75E493AD5A11B0998CA80B291, the ID printed in that note. Leave it in the note. Keep the other marks as identifiers: the ATTENTION line, the LALIA brand, the 72-hour qTox clock, the blank Chat ID field, the GitHub releases instruction, and the sell-or-publish threat. Those artifacts are how you prove this was Lalia and not a different locker that only sounds similar. They are evidence. They are not instructions you should carry out.
The 72-hour line is not a reason to rush a payment. The leak line is not a reason to skip a report. Neither clock is a reason to stay on the infected machine so you can “make the window.” The clocks are theirs. The files are already locked. Another 72 hours of panic will not change the bytes, and a sell-or-publish threat printed in Notepad is not a fuse you can see.
If a later message quotes RECOVERY_INFO.txt and offers “the real qTox,” that is still the same shop. If a later message skips qTox and asks for a $ figure over ordinary email, that is still the same shop, or a copycat standing in the same doorway. If someone claims they can already decrypt Lalia files for a fee because they can recite ATTENTION and the 72-hour line, they are selling a report, not a key. Do not answer. Do not complete their checkout. Do not help them fill the blank Chat ID.
If Windows still offers to pick an app for the .lalia type, decline it. There is no player for that ending.
When you talk to a responder, name the .lalia ending, the RECOVERY_INFO.txt filename, the ATTENTION line, the exfil claim, the 72-hour qTox clock, the printed sample ID, and the blank Chat ID field. That is enough to match this locker. You do not need their sample decrypt to be taken seriously by your own side. You do not need a lab comparison. The folder is the evidence.
If a stranger later greets you by .lalia, by RECOVERY_INFO.txt, or by that printed qTox ID, they read the same note you did.
A 72-hour qTox clock in the note is not a reason to skip the CISA ransomware reporting page or a report at the FBI IC3 desk. The clock is theirs. The files are already locked. Another three days of panic will not change the bytes.
The Bottom Line
Lalia ransomware is a locker with a readable filename and a note that wants a private chat. It keeps the old name and appends .lalia. In the sample this page uses, 1.jpg becomes 1.jpg.lalia. vacation.jpg becomes vacation.jpg.lalia. invoice-2026.pdf becomes invoice-2026.pdf.lalia. taxes.xlsx becomes taxes.xlsx.lalia. family.mp4 becomes family.mp4.lalia. The note is RECOVERY_INFO.txt.
The note does not print a ransom $ amount. It does not print a wallet. It opens with ATTENTION and says the files were encrypted by LALIA. It claims the data was already exfiltrated. It tells you not to decrypt the files yourself, not to use recovery tools, not to rename the locked copies, and not to go to law enforcement. It offers a sample decrypt. It gives you 72 hours to contact them on qTox. The published sample prints this qTox ID: 7F21082F19B6EB818083A9920D654533FB9CA3AC99A6881119F75E493AD5A11B0998CA80B291. That is the ID printed in that note, not a new one. It tells you to download qTox from github.com/qTox/qTox/releases. It leaves “Your Chat ID for verification” blank. After the deadline, it says the data will be sold or published. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain.
Do not pay. Do not open that qTox ID. Do not install the messenger because the note named GitHub. Do not fill the blank Chat ID. Do not send a sample. Do not rename the pile in bulk. If you take one sentence with you, take this. A folder of names ending in .lalia, plus a RECOVERY_INFO.txt file that sells a 72-hour qTox clock, is ransomware on the first sighting. Treat it that way before anyone in that chat names a $ figure.

Here are 10 practical safety rules to help you avoid malware, online shopping scams, crypto scams, and other online fraud. Each tip includes a quick “if you already got hit” action.
Stop and verify before you click, log in, download, or pay.
Most scams win by creating urgency. Verify using a trusted method: type the website address yourself, use the official app, or call a known number (not the one in the message).
If you already clicked: close the page, do not enter passwords, and run a malware scan.
Keep your operating system, browser, and apps updated.
Updates patch security holes used by malware and malicious ads. Turn on automatic updates where possible.
If you saw a scary “update now” pop-up: close it and update only through your device settings or the official app store.
Use layered protection: antivirus plus an ad blocker.
Antivirus helps block malware. An ad blocker reduces scam redirects, phishing pages, and malvertising.
If your browser is acting weird: remove unknown extensions, reset the browser, then run a full scan.
Install apps, software, and extensions only from official sources.
Avoid cracked software, “keygens,” and random downloads. During installs, choose Custom/Advanced and decline bundled offers you do not recognize.
If you already installed something suspicious: uninstall it, restart, and scan again.

Crypto rule: never pay a “fee” to withdraw or recover money.
Common patterns include fake profits, then “tax,” “gas,” or “verification” fees. Another is a “recovery agent” who demands upfront crypto.
If you already sent crypto: stop paying, save evidence (wallet addresses, TXIDs, chats), and report the scam to the platform used.
Secure your accounts with unique passwords and 2FA (start with email).
Use a password manager and unique passwords for every account. Enable 2FA using an authenticator app when possible.
If you suspect an account takeover: change passwords, sign out of all devices, and review recent logins and recovery settings.
Back up important files and keep one backup offline.
Backups protect you from ransomware and device failure. Keep at least one backup on an external drive that is not always connected.
If you suspect infection: do not connect backup drives until the system is clean.
If you think you are a victim: stop losses, document evidence, and escalate fast.
Move quickly. Speed matters for disputes, account recovery, and limiting damage.
Stop payments and contact: do not send more money or respond to the scammer.
Call your bank or card issuer: block transactions, replace the card if needed, and start a dispute or chargeback.

Secure other accounts: change passwords, enable 2FA, and log out of all sessions.
Scan your device: remove suspicious apps or extensions, then run a full malware scan.

Report it: to the payment provider, marketplace, social platform, exchange, or wallet service involved.
These rules are intentionally simple. Most online losses happen when decisions are rushed. Slow down, verify independently, and use payment methods and account controls that give you recourse.
