Exitium EXPOSED: .exitium Files, YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html, and a 168-Hour Clock

You open Documents the way you did yesterday. The first photo should still be 1.jpg. The second image should still be 2.png. The invoice should still be invoice-2026.pdf. The tax sheet should still be taxes.xlsx. Instead every familiar name has a second ending tacked on. 1.jpg is now 1.jpg.exitium. 2.png is now 2.png.exitium. A page named YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html is sitting in the same folder, as if it has always belonged there.
That is the trap, not a glitch.
This page is for the hour those names appear. It is not a miracle key. It is a map of the trap, so the note does not become your incident plan.

Overview
Exitium ransomware locks the files first. Then it keeps the old name and the old type, and hangs .exitium on the end. Then it drops YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html and talks like a crisis desk for Management. The note is a storefront. It claims files from your infra are encrypted. It lists passports, IDs, employes, and healthcare. It starts a 168-hour clock. It tells you to add a Tox ID. It leaves the Tor blog line blank. It does not print a wallet. It does not print a Session handle. It does not print an onion. It does not print a $ figure. This page will not invent those missing pieces.
If you are staring at a pile of .exitium files and that HTML note, you are in a ransom incident, not a broken disk and not a Windows pop-up. The folder is the evidence. The note is a checkout. Stay with the folder, not with the script.
The first tell is the rename. In the sample used for this page, 1.jpg becomes 1.jpg.exitium. 2.png becomes 2.png.exitium. The locker does not hide what the file used to be. It keeps the old name in front and adds .exitium behind it. An invoice would look like invoice-2026.pdf.exitium. A tax sheet would look like taxes.xlsx.exitium. A video would look like family.mp4.exitium. You can still read what the file used to be. You cannot open it. Windows may call the type an EXITIUM File and offer a useless “choose an app” box. An app cannot talk locked bytes back into a JPEG.
The second tell is the note. After the files are locked, the malware drops YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html into the same folders. YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK sounds like a siren. The .html ending makes it look like a page you are supposed to open. Put them together and the first English you can still read after the photos break is a sales flyer in a browser tab. The flyer is meant to be opened. It is not meant to be trusted.
The body of that sample talks like a letter to a boss. Hello, Management! Files from your infra have been encrypted by Exitium ransomware! All data, including passports, IDs, employes, healthcare and other data has been encrypted and can be lost irrevocable! That last word is the note’s own spelling. CONTACT US WITHIN 168 HOURS OR YOUR FILES WILL STAY ENCRYPTED FOREVER. NO NEED TO TRY DELETE OR MODIFY ENCRYPTED FILES! THIS WILL LEAD TO IMPOSSIBILITY OF FILE DECRYPTION. Then it tells you how to contact them. Download Tox. Go to Add Friend. Send a request to a TOX_ID. After you contact us we will start negotiations. The printed ID in the sample is 0932023CDBDC780B80B4772D22975C9AAD6D1A5921AA4C746C9E4851A307DE1888A6F56FDFBE. Copy that string the way it is, or leave it blank. Do not tidy it. Do not invent a shorter one.
The note also tells you not to report. Option of reporting to the FBI or police or any other service is pointless, it says, because they would not help you and forbid you paying the amount we are after. That line is a sales trick. It names a $ amount without printing one. It tries to make a report feel like a file-killing mistake. From our side we guarantee that you will receive your data after payment because we are no hacktivists and not politically motivated. Then a secrecy promise. Then OUR BLOG(Tor link): and nothing after it. The blog line is blank on the sample. This page will not invent an onion to finish that sentence.
That is the whole pitch. A locked folder of .exitium names. A YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html file that talks like a management brief. A 168-hour fuse. One Tox ID. A blank Tor blog line. No wallet. No Session. No onion. No $ figure. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain. There is no reason to add that Tox today because an HTML page told you to.
The .exitium name is the first warning
Most lockers pick an extension so you notice the change in seconds. Exitium uses .exitium. The extra cruelty is how readable the listing stays. You do not have to decode anything. You can still see 1.jpg inside 1.jpg.exitium. You can still see 2.png inside 2.png.exitium. You can still see the invoice year. You can still see the word taxes. The familiar words are still in the folder. The files are not familiar anymore.
Do not treat that readable name as a fix. Do not strip .exitium off the end and expect Photos or Excel to open the file. Do not run a bulk “extension fixer” you found in an ad. The name is a label. The lock is in the content. Editing the label can make a later trusted tool have a harder time matching the file to what it was. Leave the locked copies as they are until you have a clean machine and a plan that does not start in a criminal chat.
The extra ending also does advertising. Anyone who sees 1.jpg.exitium next to YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html can pretend they already have your case. A later fake helper will quote the extension back to you as if that were expertise. The extension is public. It is sitting in the folder. Quoting it proves nothing except that they can read a listing.
YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html is a sales floor, not a help file
The ransom note is an HTML page with a name that sounds like an alarm. YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html wants the first click after the panic. Plenty of real software drops a local HTML help page. This one uses that habit against you. It is meant to be the first English you can still read when the photos will not open.
Double-clicking it opens a browser. That is why a panicked first click feels like opening a status page. It is not a status page. It is the demand, written so it looks official enough to follow. The filename is built to look like a crisis banner. YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK. An exclamation mark. A .html ending Windows already knows how to open. A banner is easier to obey than a threat.
Keep the file on disk. Then close it. Do not treat it as a set of steps you should follow. Do not tidy the filename. Do not shorten it to “the attack page” when you write the incident down. Copy YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html the way you would copy a serial off a stolen laptop. That string is how a responder matches this locker. It is not a coupon you redeem by adding a Tox friend.
Hello, Management! is a costume
The first line of the sample is not a diagnosis. It is a greeting aimed at a person who signs checks. Hello, Management! does the same job a fake letterhead does on a collection notice. It names the room so the rest of the flyer feels like the only adult in it. You are supposed to stop thinking and start obeying.
The shout is also a brand. Later search ads will quote it. Later “helpers” will paste Hello, Management! so they sound close to your folder. Anyone can copy a greeting. Copying Files from your infra have been encrypted by Exitium ransomware! does not mean they can reverse .exitium. It means they read the same note you did, or they read a screenshot of it.
If the page is sitting in more than one folder, that is normal for this family. Lockers drop the same HTML in many places so you cannot miss it. Finding five copies is not five incidents. It is one incident with a loud flyer. Keep one clean copy as evidence. You do not need to open every copy. You do not need to compare them inside a Tox chat.
168 hours is a fuse, not a courtesy
The note prints a clock in capital letters. CONTACT US WITHIN 168 HOURS OR YOUR FILES WILL STAY ENCRYPTED FOREVER. That is 100% of the deadline on the page. There is no second timer. There is no “keys deleted in 24 hours” line under it. There is no printed $ bump if you wait. The 168-hour line is there to make today feel already too late.
A fuse is not a kindness. Other families use 48 hours or 72 hours so you feel managed. Exitium uses 168 hours, which is seven days if you do the math at the kitchen table, and then it tells you the files stay locked forever if you miss it. Forever is a sales word. It is not a lab result you can verify from that HTML page.
Do not start a personal countdown because a later chat offered a shorter fuse. Do not pay a deposit to “pause the 168 hours.” The printed clock is evidence of how this strain talks. It is not a calendar you should obey. If a stranger quotes the 168-hour line and then invents a $ figure to go with it, they are finishing a sentence the original note left blank on purpose.
Tox is a closed room, not a help desk
The only contact path the sample prints is Tox. How to contact us, it says. Download Tox. Go to Add Friend. Send a request to this TOX_ID. After you contact us we will start negotiations. The ID in the sample is 0932023CDBDC780B80B4772D22975C9AAD6D1A5921AA4C746C9E4851A307DE1888A6F56FDFBE. That is a long hex string. It is meant to look like a unique door that only you were given. It is still a public checkout sitting in an HTML file.
A Tox friend request is not a support ticket. It is a private chat the other side controls. There is no ticket number you can show a bank. There is no public record if they vanish. There is no reason the people who locked 1.jpg.exitium become trustworthy because they asked you to add them in a messenger.
Keep the ID as an identifier if it is on your disk. Then leave it alone. Do not paste it into a “Tox checker.” Do not ask a friend to add it “just to see.” Do not type it into a random site that claims it can “open a negotiation for you.” The string is evidence. It is not a doorbell you should press.
The blank Tor blog is not a puzzle
Near the end the note prints OUR BLOG(Tor link): and then stops. On the sample used for this page that line is blank. It is not a redacted onion with a few characters showing. It is empty. This page will not invent an .onion to make the flyer look complete.
That gap is where copycats work. Someone will publish a long onion and call it the Exitium blog. Someone will sell a “connector” that is just more malware. Someone will ask you to run a command so they can “reach the operator on your behalf.” None of that is a reason to finish their sentence. The sample used for this page does not reprint a Tor URL. Do not invent one.
A blank blog line is still part of the costume. It hints that a leak site exists without giving you one. It lets a later fake helper say “I have the real blog” as if that were a key. It is not a key. It is a blank. Leave the blank as a blank.
No wallet and no $ figure is still a ransom
The note never prints a Bitcoin address. It never prints a Session ID. It never names a $ amount. It still talks about payment. It says you will receive your data after payment. It says reporting would forbid you paying the amount we are after. The amount is the scare. The missing $ is not a kindness. It is a way to get you into Tox so they can name the price in a room they control.
Public copies of this note do not fill that blank. This page will not invent a wallet, a Session handle, an onion, or a victim $ figure to finish the sentence. A missing wallet in the copy you are reading is not a puzzle. If your own file on disk still shows only the same blank lines, treat those blanks as evidence. Do not type a string from a forum into an exchange “just to see the fee.”
That is the whole shop. Locked names ending in .exitium. An HTML siren. A 168-hour fuse. A Tox ID. A blank blog. A payment promise with no $ on the page. Stay with that list. Do not add props the flyer did not print.
How The Attack Works
The hour after the folder breaks is when the note tries to become the plan. The steps below are the trap, not a recovery guide. They are here so you can see the checkout without walking through it.
1. The locker keeps the old name and hangs .exitium
Exitium does not replace 1.jpg with a random hash. It keeps the old name and appends .exitium. The documented pattern is simple. 1.jpg becomes 1.jpg.exitium. 2.png becomes 2.png.exitium. That is why the listing still looks like your Documents folder. The cruelty is the familiarity. You can still sort by name. You can still see which photo was which. You just cannot open any of them.
Windows may show the type as EXITIUM File. That is a label for an ending it does not know. It is not a player. It is not a decoder. If a box asks you to pick an app, decline it. Picking Photos, Chrome, or a random “repair” tool from an ad does not rebuild the bytes.
Leave every .exitium name as it is. The original name is already sitting in front of the extra ending. You do not need to edit it to know what you lost.
2. The HTML note lands in the same folder
After the rename, YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html appears in the same place as the locked files. It wants to be the one thing that still opens. A browser tab feels like progress. It is not progress. It is the storefront loading on your own machine.
The page greets Management. It names Exitium ransomware in the first sentence. It lists passports, IDs, employes, healthcare. Those words are chosen because they hurt. They are not a proof of what was taken. They are a list of fears. A home PC with family photos gets the same script as a company share. The flyer does not need to be accurate. It needs to be loud.
Keep the HTML with the locked files. Close the tab. Do not print it for a friend to “handle the chat.” Do not upload it to a random decoder site that asks for the full note plus a sample plus a phone number.
3. The 168-hour clock starts the panic
CONTACT US WITHIN 168 HOURS OR YOUR FILES WILL STAY ENCRYPTED FOREVER is the fuse. It is printed in capitals so it feels like a system message. It is still attacker copy. 168 hours is a round week if you count it out. Forever is the threat that makes a week feel short.
The clock does two jobs. It makes waiting feel like destruction. It also makes any later $ ask feel like a limited offer, even though the original page never printed a $ figure. That is why a copycat loves this line. They can quote 168 hours, then invent a price, then call the invention “the real invoice.”
Do not build a kitchen-table countdown. Do not let a later message shorten the fuse to 24 hours and call that a courtesy. The sample printed 168 hours. Leave the rest uninvented.
4. They tell you not to delete or modify the locked files
NO NEED TO TRY DELETE OR MODIFY ENCRYPTED FILES! THIS WILL LEAD TO IMPOSSIBILITY OF FILE DECRYPTION. That pair of lines is mixed. The useful half is the warning against reckless edits. The useful half is not a reason to obey the rest of the flyer.
Do not bulk-rename. Do not run a “fixer.” Do not open 1.jpg.exitium in a hex editor because a forum post said to. Do not delete the HTML note to “clean the folder.” The dangerous half of those capitals is the implication that only they can touch the files safely. That is the setup for Tox.
A later trusted tool, when one exists, needs the files as they were left. Your job in this hour is not to improve the pile. It is to stop adding damage, and to stop adding chat.
5. Tox is the only door they print
How to contact us has three steps in the sample. Download Tox. Add Friend. Send a request to the TOX_ID. There is no email. There is no Session. There is no form. There is no wallet line to pay first. The door is a messenger ID: 0932023CDBDC780B80B4772D22975C9AAD6D1A5921AA4C746C9E4851A307DE1888A6F56FDFBE.
That is a closed room. Once you are in it, they can name a $ figure the HTML never printed. They can send a new ID. They can send a file. They can ask for a “test” photo. They can stall until the 168-hour line feels closer. None of that is recovery. It is negotiation theater.
Do not add that Tox. Do not ask a coworker to add it from a personal phone. Do not paste the ID into a second messenger “so it is saved.” If you already sent a request before you found this page, stop there. Do not send a sample. Do not send a screenshot of the folder. Do not send ID photos because the note mentioned passports.
6. They tell you to download qTox
The first contact step in the sample is a download line. It points at a qTox installer on GitHub, named like a normal Windows setup file, version v1.18.3, 64-bit. Naming a real project is part of the costume. It makes the next click feel like installing a known chat app, not walking into a ransom desk.
A real chat app can still be used as a checkout. The danger is not only a fake installer. The danger is the friend request that follows. Even a genuine qTox window becomes a problem the moment you paste that TOX_ID and hit send. The note wants that sequence to feel technical and therefore safe. Technical is not the same as safe.
You do not need to complete their install list to identify the strain. The HTML filename, the .exitium ending, the 168-hour line, and the Tox string already do that. Installing what they named is not a required step. It is their step.
7. They tell you not to report
The note says reporting to the FBI or police or any other service is pointless. It says they would not help you. It says they would forbid you paying the amount we are after. Then it says that would momentarily lead to data loss and you will lose any chance of decryption. That paragraph is not legal advice. It is a script for keeping you in the room.
Notice what it does with money. It talks about “the amount” and never prints a $. It talks about a ban on paying and never prints a wallet. It wants you to believe a report is what kills the files, not the locker that already hung .exitium on 1.jpg. That swap is the con.
A report is not a decryptor. It is also not the file-killing event the flyer describes. Do not skip a report because an HTML page written by the people who locked the folder told you to. Do not let that paragraph become the reason you open Tox “first, just in case.”
8. They promise secrecy and “we are no hacktivists”
The closer is a character speech. From our side we guarantee that you will receive your data after payment because we are no hacktivists and not politically motivated. Then a promise to leave the ransom, paying, negotiating process as a secret. Then a promise not to expose this case to any public. Then a promise to remove your files from our storage.
Those lines do a lot of work with no proof. They hint that copies were taken. They hint that a leak is possible. They also claim they will not leak if you pay. There is still no blog URL under OUR BLOG(Tor link):. There is still no $ figure. There is still no wallet. A secrecy promise from the people who locked the folder is not a contract. You cannot leave a review on a Tox ID.
Do not treat “not politically motivated” as comfort. Do not treat “we will remove your files from our storage” as evidence that a copy exists, or that a copy will be deleted. Those are sales words. They are not a reason to add a friend.
9. Third parties will sell an Exitium conversation
After a ransomware incident, search results fill up with companies that say they can decrypt Exitium or “all .exitium files.” Some of those shops are ordinary overpriced consultants. Plenty are a second scam. They will quote YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html so they sound close to the case. They will mention 168 hours. They will mention Hello, Management! They will mention the Tox ID as if they already called the original crew. They will ask for a sample file, a remote-access session, or a deposit.
A demo that “unlocks one file” is not proof they can unlock 1.jpg.exitium. Anyone can open one junk file they control. Anyone can send you a wallet string that makes an exchange window appear, even though the original note never printed one. An exchange window is not Photos opening 1.jpg again. If a later message skips Tox and asks for coin over ordinary mail, that is still the same market, or a copycat standing in the same doorway. Do not answer. Do not help them invent a $ figure the flyer left blank.
A real public decryptor, when one exists, shows up on an official project page that already existed before your incident. It does not need a Tox friend request. It does not need YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html as a coupon. If the pitch is “we can decrypt, pay us first,” you are still in the market the ransomware created. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain. Until a trusted project publishes one, treat any site that says “we already have the Exitium key” as a second sales pitch.
10. Payment and adding that Tox close nothing
Paying a stranger for a private key is not a guarantee. The people who send the note can take the money and disappear. They can send a string that only makes a decryptor show an error. They can come back later and lock the same machine again. A Tox thread makes that outcome easier, not harder. You cannot leave a review on a criminal chat ID.
Adding 0932023CDBDC780B80B4772D22975C9AAD6D1A5921AA4C746C9E4851A307DE1888A6F56FDFBE is the free version of the same dead end. There is no public free decryptor known for this strain. Starting a chat does not rebuild a JPEG. It only keeps you in their story while the rest of the disk still needs a real plan.
If this is a company machine, tell counsel and your incident lead. If this is a home PC, tell the people whose files lived on it. Change passwords from a clean device. Watch bank and email alerts. Opening that HTML page again is not useful work. It is the checkout, even when the $ line was never printed.
What To Do If Your Files End in .exitium
Do not pay. Do not add that Tox. Do not invent a Bitcoin address, a Session handle, an onion, or a $ figure to finish YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html. Do not type the Tox ID into a checker, a “connector,” or a form a stranger sends back. Do not send proof of payment. Do not send a test file. If you already sent a friend request before you found this page, stop there. Do not pay a deposit to “hold the 168 hours” for anyone who quotes the note.
STEP 1: Use Rkill to terminate suspicious programs.

When RKill runs it will kill malware processes and then removes incorrect executable associations and fixes policies that stop us from using certain tools.

You can download RKill to your computer from the below link. When at the download page, click on the Download Now button labeled iExplore.exe. We are downloading a renamed version of Rkill (iExplore.exe) because some malware will not allow processes to run unless they have a certain filename.

Run RKill.
After downloading, double-click the iExplore.exe icon to kill malicious processes. In most cases, downloaded files are saved to the Downloads folder. The program may take some time to search for and end various malware programs.
When it is finished, the black window will close automatically and a log file will open. Do not restart your computer. Proceed to the next step in this guide.

Install Malwarebytes
When the download finishes, open your Downloads folder and double-click the MBSetup file. If Windows shows a User Account Control pop-up, click “Yes” to allow the installation.
Follow the On-Screen Prompts to Install Malwarebytes

Wait for the Scan to Finish
The scan checks your entire system for browser hijackers and other malicious programs, so it can take several minutes. Feel free to do something else — just check back occasionally to see the progress.
Quarantine the Detected Threats
When the scan is done, you’ll see a list of everything Malwarebytes found — malware, adware, and potentially unwanted programs. Click the “Quarantine” button to remove all of them at once.
Malwarebytes will now remove the malicious files and registry entries and move them safely into quarantine.
Restart Your Computer
Some threats can only be fully removed after a reboot. If Malwarebytes asks you to restart, click Yes. Once you’re logged back in, your PC is clean and you can continue with the next steps in this guide.

Enable “Reset Chrome policies”

Start the Scan
Click “Dashboard” on the left side of the window, then click the “Scan” button.
Wait for the Scan to Finish
AdwCleaner will now check your computer for adware and other malware. This usually takes only a few minutes — it’s one of the fastest scanners around.
Quarantine the Detected Threats
When the scan finishes, AdwCleaner will list everything it found. Click the “Quarantine” button to remove all the malicious items at once.
Click “Continue” to Finish the Cleanup

When the download finishes, open your Downloads folder and double-click “esetonlinescanner.exe“.
Install ESET Online Scanner
On the start screen, select your language from the drop-down menu and click Get started.

Start a Full Scan

Select snapshot date.
Open ShadowExplorer and then from the top bar select the drive where the files that you want to save are located, then select from the snapshot available one previous to this infection.
Export the files that you want to recover.
Once you have found a copy of the original file or folder, right-click on it and the select “Export”. A window will prompt you where you want to save the file or folder.
Keep every .exitium name exactly as it is. Do not bulk-rename 1.jpg.exitium back to 1.jpg, or 2.png.exitium back to 2.png, or invoice-2026.pdf.exitium back to a normal PDF, or taxes.xlsx.exitium back to a spreadsheet, or family.mp4.exitium back to a video. Stripping the extra ending is not a repair. It can make a later trusted tool worse, not better. The original name is already sitting in front of .exitium. You do not need to edit it to know what you lost.
Keep YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html with the locked files, and keep at least one .exitium sample such as 1.jpg.exitium. Do not “clean up” every copy of the note. Do not fill in a wallet, a Session ID, an onion, or a $ amount so the flyer looks complete. The blanks, or the strings on your disk, are part of how you prove this was this strain and not a different locker that only sounds similar. Those artifacts are evidence. They are not instructions you should carry out.
Do not pay. Do not add a Tox friend because the HTML told you to. Do not ask a friend to write them “just to see.” A blank $ line is still a ransom. A calm greeting to Management is still the people who locked the files. If a later message quotes YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html and offers “the real wallet,” that is still the same shop. If a later message skips the original note and asks for coin over a different channel, that is still the same shop, or a copycat standing in the same doorway.
If someone claims they can already decrypt Exitium files for a fee because they can recite 168 hours and Hello, Management!, they are selling a report, not a key. If they mention the HTML filename as proof they “already called the crew,” they read the same note you did. Do not answer. Do not complete their checkout. Do not help them fix the flyer.
If Windows still offers to pick an app for the .exitium type, decline it. There is no player for that ending.

A folder of names ending in .exitium, plus YOU ARE UNDER ATTACK!.html with a 168-hour fuse, is ransomware on the first sighting. Keep the HTML and a .exitium sample. Treat it that way before anyone offers to fill the blank $ line.

Stop and verify before you click, log in, download, or pay.
Most scams win by creating urgency. Verify using a trusted method: type the website address yourself, use the official app, or call a known number (not the one in the message).
If you already clicked: close the page, do not enter passwords, and run a malware scan.
Keep your operating system, browser, and apps updated.
Updates patch security holes used by malware and malicious ads. Turn on automatic updates where possible.
If you saw a scary “update now” pop-up: close it and update only through your device settings or the official app store.
Use layered protection: antivirus plus an ad blocker.
Antivirus helps block malware. An ad blocker reduces scam redirects, phishing pages, and malvertising.
If your browser is acting weird: remove unknown extensions, reset the browser, then run a full scan.
Install apps, software, and extensions only from official sources.
