WebCake 3.0 is an adware program that displays coupons, advertisements and sponsored links via a pop-up box on Ebay, Amazon, Walmart and other shopping websites that you are visiting
WebCake pop-up ads will be shown as boxes containing various coupons that are available or as underlined keywords, which when clicked will display an advertisement that states it is brought to you by WebCake shop at first sight.
WebCake is an extension for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome that is typically added when you install another free software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this adware program. Some of the programs that are known to bundle WebCake include 1ClickDownload, Superfish, Yontoo and FBPhotoZoom.
When the Webcake adware is installed on a computer, each time you visit an e-commerce website (eg: Amazon, Ebay, Walmart), you will see a “See Similar” button on product images.
The WebCake adware will also display advertising banners on the webpages that you are visiting, and as you browse the Internet, it will show coupons and other deals available on different websites.
WebCake it’s technically not a virus, but it does exhibit plenty of malicious traits, such as rootkit capabilities to hook deep into the operating system, browser hijacking, and in general just interfering with the user experience. The industry generally refers to it as a “PUP”, or potentially unwanted program.
You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this WebCake adware. Be very careful what you agree to install.
Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place. It goes without saying that you should not install software that you don’t trust.

Hello,
Never seen JRT take more than 20 minutes to complete, and it usually manages to remove the files. 4 hours is a long, long time… Anyway, as long as your issue is fixed, I can only say Stay safe! :D
You completely rock!! Thank you so much. I have been so aggravated with this obnoxious Webcake the past 3 weeks!!! No idea what I downloaded on my new computer that it was attached to. Malwarebytes didn’t detect it, ADW cleaner helped some and said it deleted some. But then the JRT took 4 hours to complete and when it listed the 15 suspicious folders, it said: “Unsuccessfully deleted”. That was a huge disappointment after waiting 4 hours. So, I just tried the last step of Hitman Pro, and it took only 2 minutes. Detected 25 problems, and now….they’re gone :) Thank you!!! I will definitely share with others on FB about your page here.
Thank you so much – my brand new laptop arrived with webcake already on it and my antivirus only dealt with part of the problem. Your advice has really helped.
Awesome – thanks! It took a little patience, but got there and got the job done.
