Welcome guide: how to ask for help

Forum guide

Welcome to MalwareTips! This guide shows you how to create your account, pick the right forum and ask a question that gets a fast, useful answer.

Last updated: September 26, 2026

  1. Create your free account

Click Register at the top of any page, or sign in faster with your Google, Microsoft or GitHub account. Then open the confirmation email we send you and click the link inside.

    • Choose a username that is not your real name.
    • Use a real email address. Disposable addresses and registrations through a VPN or proxy are often blocked, because they are commonly used by spammers.
  2. Say hello (optional)

Introduce yourself in New Members Introduction. It is a friendly way to get to know the community.

  3. Choose the right forum

Posting in the right place gets you the right helpers:

    Windows malware removal

    Infections, pop-ups, browser hijackers, ransomware.

    Mac malware removal

Adware, unwanted profiles and suspicious apps on macOS.

    Mobile malware removal

Android and iPhone problems, fake apps, scam pop-ups.

    Security setup advice

Which antivirus, firewall or browser to use and how to configure them.

For anything else, search first. Your question may already have an answer.

  4. Start your thread

Open the forum and click Post thread. Write a short, specific title, for example "Chrome keeps opening scam pages after installing a PDF app", not "Help!!!". In the message, include:

    • Your device and operating system version
    • The security software you use
    • What happened, when it started and what you have already tried
    • Exact error messages or screenshots
  5. Follow up in the same thread

Our helpers are volunteers, so an answer can take a few hours. Reply in the same thread, follow the steps you are given one at a time, and let us know when the problem is fixed.

A few basic rules

  • Read the forum rules and respect their spirit, not just their wording.
  • No links to pirated software, cracks or other illegal downloads.
  • No advertising or self-promotion.
  • Be patient and polite. Everyone here is helping in their free time.
