Remove WebCake pop-up ads (Virus Removal Guide)

WebCake is an adware program that displays offers, coupons and advertisements via a “See Similar” button on Ebay, Amazon, Walmart and other shopping websites that you are visiting.
The WebCake pop-up ads will be shown as boxes containing various coupons that are available or as underlined keywords, which when clicked will display an advertisement that states it is brought to you by “WebCake shop at first sight“.
WebCake is an extension for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome that is typically added when you install another free software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this adware program. When you install these free programs, they will also install WebCake as well. Some of the programs that are known to bundle WebCake include 1ClickDownload, Yontoo and FBPhotoZoom.

Once installed, whenever you will visit Expedia, Best Buy, Facebook or any other similar websites, WebCake will display on product images a “See Similar” button, which when clicked will show you ads by WebCake.

You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this WebCake virus. Be very careful what you agree to install.
Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place. It goes without saying that you should not install software that you don’t trust.

Hi, I have been trying to get rid of Webcake for ages, thought it was impossible, tried so many suggestions on the Internet. But this time I think I’ve done it ! Thank you so very much, saved paying someone to clean my whole laptop out again. I did not go thru with the HitmanPro because the screens did not look the same as in the above guide. I am too worried now to download things, I may try again. Thank you so much for your help ! ….. M

Hey, I also got the ‘setup initialization message’ and was unable to manually remove Webcake from the list of programs. I followed your steps above. With ADwcleaner, I was able to remove the program from the list and other infected files.
I also ran HitmanPro and it removed some more files.

    Thanks for the great advice!
