Hello :)

I want to know which IS is better to buy for Windows/Android for whole familly.

Most Important to me is best protection and usability
Both run smooth on my devices.

Recently I read that apparently the best is Kaspersky and Bitdefender but I do not trust Kaspersky

People, I have communicated with a Bitdefender agent on the subject of SSD degradation, this was answered:
An update will take around 800-900mb as a total size. Updates are not so big as long as they are made regularly, we advice to update Bitdefender at least 1/2 a week or use the automatic update option. Also it doesn't degrade the SSD. The 900 mb is the total size, which means the Antivirus and the VPN, also there isn't a way to reduce the size of them sadly.
Every SSD degrade in time by the number of readings and writings, Bitdefender updates won't do it faster in particular.
if the update is regularity, in this case, the update size will be around 700 to 800 Mb.
Greetings.

Very well said.
Every AV program needs to update itself. More often or less often
It's not just upgrades that are killing SSD

What affects the lifespan of an SSD?

SSDs, on the other hand, have a predetermined lifespan. This means that data can be written to a flash memory cell from about 3,000 to 100,000 times. When a certain limit is reached, a sector on the drive becomes useless.

My SSD as of today

I think this worry about SSDs is valid only about the first generation of SSDs... My oldest one has had over 33 terabytes of data written and SMART is still at 99%... Some studies also suggest that current generation SSDs are more reliable and will last longer than HDs.

There's no point in agressively discussing over software. It's okay to like an antivirus and it's okay to dislike it.

IMO, both BitDefender and Norton are great pieces of software. I am a Norton user myself, and have been a BitDefender user. Both provided me with excellent, robust protection.

Although in some people's hardware, any of these may present trouble, or may work better than the other one. Whatever the case, both are great at what they do, so you may be better served with one or with another, or you may be better served with Kaspersky, Windows Defender, or any other product.

Remember, there's no magical software that beats them all products and gives you security invulnerability. There are, however, different users' scenarios and, therefore, different products that may suit you better or not suit you at all. You may use independant tests to guide you in your journey of trying and testing the products you have doubts about. At the end of day, the first line of defense in your system will be your knowledge about surfing the web and basic security.

In France, Bitdefender is the best-selling antivirus software (in second place is Norton). It had a rebound given the events (the most sold before was Kaspersky, but many professionals and stores don't want to sell it anymore, just like in Germany).

I was talking again today with a computer specialist near me who used to sell Norton (but his reseller stopped selling it... I don't know why) but is now selling Bitdefender, the customer returns are very low.
For the moment, these people have not had any worries about service crashes (I can't remember the name of the Bitdefender service process).

When I was using it, I didn't notice this problem either. The only time I had this problem was in 2009 (with their old tomato looking logo :D ) and in 2012 when their dragon wolf appeared for the first time.

On the other hand, they should stop injecting surfing, because that's why I uninstalled it, given the drop in throughput with VPN active....

Keep in mind that according to what I have seen Bitdefender is quite right compared to Norton, I am not saying that it is completely correct but in some ways because it also makes a difference how it is used

This is is a full artical you also read this- https://bit.ly/3wWwIrD

Bitdefender has always been ranked very high by testing companies ;) (Norton is always 2nd, and very close to Bitdefender) .

For me it's clearly 2 very good antivirus (there are others like GDATA, Eset, Kaspersky, F-Secure etc), very complete and that they knew how to evolve considering the sophistication of malwares.

As far as I remember not too long ago here on the forum someone mentioned problems with BD services from those years. Apparently there must have been something back then.

Just seeing the old logo, I remember the jokes I used to make... a tomato... (and more buggy)

All tribalism set aside; both are perfectly fine. Between these 2, I chose Norton because of:

Norton:

- Sonar (configurable to "aggressive" for stronger protection).
- Powerful and easy to understand "File Insight" protection.
- Powerful firewall, configurable to "aggressive" for stronger protection.

I have a full license for both products. I've tried both. Neither are perfect, but Norton gives me more granular control (see above in bold). Norton Insight is amazing, when it triggers. I think Norton firewall is more advanced also.

But as I said, neither is perfect. Both have bloatware, both have marketing. I chose the one I thought was better IMO.

Totally agree on Norton Insight ;)
