@jack, you mention family, in my opinion, that make an antivirus necessary. I mean, if a computer is shared, an AV on board is certainly a must. Also, people that installs lots of new software should use one too. In my case, those conditions don't apply. My kids are all grown up and live with their families in the States, my wife has her own computer and don't use mine. For us, computers are like toothbrushes. The maids are good girls and dont mess with my rules. When my mom comes to visit, I create a separate sandbox for her, put her name in a shortcut and place it in the desktop. I set up her sandbox in a way that is easy for her to do what she normally does but strong enough to keep anything contained. About being a software tester junky, I am disciplined, avoiding trying programs just for trying is not very hard. If I really want to play with something, I use Shadow Defender. @Illumination, for you to understand the difference in response, you need to have something to compare with. I mean, if you have never being without an antivirus, you got nothing to compare with. But I ll give you an example were having or not having a real time AV makes such a huge difference that it will be easy for you to understand what I mean even though you have never being without an AV. If you have a folder with, lets say, 50 or 100 installers, when I click on that folder, the icons in that folder ALL show up immediately in my computers. There is no delay. But if you are using a real time antivirus, BB or a HIPS, for all the icons to show up/open up, it might take a minute or more. In my personal case, the main reason why I don't use an antivirus is not because the computer is a little faster but because I am safer. We talk about that the other day so I wont talk about it again unless you or someone else would like to.:) Regards Bo
