The email claims a payment from Asahi Wholesale Department Co., Ltd. was received through GreenState Credit Union.
It includes an invoice number, reference number, merchant details, an Osaka address, and a payment total hidden behind X characters.
The layout is designed for someone who processes invoices quickly. It does not begin with a dramatic threat.
It presents a completed transaction and invites the recipient to open the supposed supporting document.
The View Document button leads to credential theft
The button does not open a legitimate GreenState statement. Researchers found that it sent recipients to a fraudulent site on `hozour[.]ae`, a domain unrelated to GreenState Credit Union.
The phishing site then adjusted its appearance to the visitor’s email provider. A Gmail address could trigger a fake Google sign-in, while another address could produce a different provider-themed form.
The real credit union is being impersonated
GreenState Credit Union is a real financial institution and is not connected to this campaign. The scammers use its name because banking language makes an unexpected payment notice feel important.
The footer says GreenState Credit Union and Japan, despite the institution’s established US identity.
That mismatch is one clue, but the safest test is simpler: never use an unexpected email button to verify a bank transaction.

How The Scam Works
Step 1: The message arrives as a completed payment

Step 2: Specific details create false credibility
The email includes a date, invoice number, voucher number, account fragments, an Osaka address, and a named payer. Those details are not proof of a real transfer.
