If you are a customer of Orange, one of the largest telecommunications providers in Europe and Africa, you may have encountered a pop-up window or a webpage that claims you have been selected to participate in a survey and win a prize. However, this is not a legitimate offer from Orange, but a scam designed to trick you into revealing your personal and financial information or installing malware on your device.

What is the Orange survey scam?
The fake Orange survey scam is a type of phishing attack that exploits the trust and loyalty of Orange customers. The scammers behind this scheme use various methods to redirect unsuspecting users to malicious sites that mimic the look and feel of Orange’s official website. Some of the possible ways that you may encounter the fake survey are:
- Malicious ads: You may see an ad on a website or an app that claims you have won a prize from Orange or that you can get a discount on your bill. If you click on the ad, you will be taken to the fake survey site.
- Malware: You may have malware on your device that hijacks your browser and redirects you to the fake survey site when you visit certain websites or search for certain keywords.
- Push notifications: You may have subscribed to push notifications from a website that pretends to be affiliated with Orange or offers some useful service. The website may then send you notifications that urge you to take the survey and claim your reward.
The fake survey site will typically ask you some questions about your satisfaction with Orange’s products and services, and then congratulate you for completing the survey. It will then prompt you to choose one of several prizes, such as an iPhone, a Samsung Galaxy, or a gift card. However, in order to claim your prize, you will have to pay a small shipping fee or provide some personal details, such as your name, address, phone number, email address, or credit card number.
This is where the scam becomes dangerous. If you provide any information to the scammers, they may use it to steal your identity, make fraudulent charges on your credit card, access your online accounts, or sell it to other cybercriminals. If you agree to pay the shipping fee, you may end up paying much more than you expected, as the scammers may enroll you in a subscription service or charge you hidden fees. If you download any software or app from the fake survey site, you may infect your device with malware that can spy on your online activity, steal your data, or damage your system.
How can you protect yourself from the fake Orange survey scam?
Here are some tips:
- Be skeptical of any offer that sounds too good to be true. Orange does not randomly select customers to participate in surveys and win prizes. If you receive such an offer, do not click on any links or open any attachments.
- Check the URL of the website before entering any information. The fake survey site may look like Orange’s official website, but it will have a different domain name. For example, instead of orange.com or orange.fr, it may have orange-survey.com or orange-rewards.net. Look for spelling errors, extra characters, or unusual extensions in the URL.
- Use a browser-based content blocker, like AdGuard. Content blockers help stop malicious ads, Trojans, phishing, and other undesirable content that an antivirus product alone may not stop.
- Report any suspicious activity to Orange and the authorities. If you encounter the fake survey scam or fall victim to it, contact Orange’s customer service and inform them about the incident. You can also report it to your local police or consumer protection agency.
