The “Your Cloud Storage Is Full” message is a fake warning used by scammers to scare people into clicking a button, entering payment details, or installing suspicious software. It may appear as a pop-up, browser redirect, email, push notification, or fake landing page that pretends to be connected to Google, iCloud, or another cloud storage provider.
The alert usually claims that your photos, videos, contacts, files, and private data may be lost, leaked, or deleted because your cloud storage is full. This is not a real cloud storage warning. It is a scam designed to create panic and push victims into unsafe actions.
What Is the “Your Cloud Storage Is Full” Scam?
The “Your Cloud Storage Is Full” scam is a deceptive pop-up and email campaign that impersonates cloud storage services. It often uses familiar visual elements, such as a cloud icon, Google-style branding, Apple/iCloud-style wording, warning boxes, and urgent red buttons.
A typical version may say:
“WARNING!!! Your Cloud storage is full”
Another version may claim:
“Your Cloud Storage Is Full! Your photos, videos, contacts, files and personal data are leaked!”
Some versions go further and display fake security messages such as:
“(24) security threats are detected”
or:
“Warning! Your Personal Data Is Not Secured.”
The purpose is to make you believe your account is in danger. The scam may claim that your files will be deleted, your backups have stopped, or your personal data has already leaked. Then it offers a quick fix: upgrade storage, pay a small fee, continue to a security check, or verify your account.
That button is the trap.
Instead of taking you to your real iCloud, Google Drive, Google One, OneDrive, Dropbox, or phone storage settings, the page may redirect you to suspicious websites, subscription forms, fake payment pages, browser notification traps, software downloads, or affiliate sales funnels.
Why the Message Is Fake
A real cloud provider does not warn you through random pop-ups on unrelated websites. If your iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox storage is full, you will see that warning inside the official app, official website, or device settings.
The fake alert usually gives itself away because it uses vague language. It may say “Cloud,” “Cloud Storage,” or “Cloud Drive” without clearly identifying the real service. It may also mix branding in strange ways, such as showing Google-style colors while mentioning iCloud, or using generic cloud graphics instead of official account pages.
That confusion is intentional. Scammers want the warning to apply to as many people as possible. If you use an iPhone, you might assume it refers to iCloud. If you use Android or Gmail, you might assume it refers to Google storage. If you use Windows, you might think it relates to OneDrive.
The scam relies on that uncertainty.
Common Versions of the Scam
The wording may change, but the pattern is usually the same.

This version claims that because your storage plan has been exceeded, your documents, contacts, and device data are no longer backing up.
It may also claim your personal data has already leaked, which is designed to create fear.
“24 Security Threats Are Detected”
This version combines a fake cloud storage warning with a fake security scan. It may claim that your account is at risk or that multiple threats have been found.
Legitimate websites cannot scan your device through a random browser page and instantly detect threats like this. These messages are scare tactics.
“Pay $1.95 for 50GB Storage”
Some versions claim you are eligible for a loyalty offer, such as an additional 50GB of cloud storage for a small one-time payment.
This is often used to collect payment details or enroll victims in unwanted recurring subscriptions. The low price is meant to make the victim think there is little risk.
How the Scam Works
Step 1: You See the Fake Alert
The scam may appear while browsing a website, clicking an ad, opening a suspicious email, or allowing notifications from a questionable site.
It may look like a real warning, but it is just a web page or pop-up.
Step 2: The Page Creates Panic
The alert tells you that your cloud storage is full, your data may be lost, or your files have been leaked. Some versions add fake countdowns, “final notice” language, or limited-time offers.
The message is designed to make you react quickly.
Step 3: You Click the Button
The button may say “Upgrade Storage,” “Continue,” or “Upgrade now before it’s too late.”
After clicking, you may be redirected through several websites. These redirects may track your location, device type, browser, and ad source before sending you to the final page.
Step 4: You Are Asked to Pay, Subscribe, or Install Something
The final page may ask you to:
Enter credit card details
Pay a small “one-time” storage fee
Start a free trial
Create an account
Install a browser extension
Download a backup app
Install a “security” program
Allow browser notifications
Call a fake support number
Any of these can put you at risk.

What Happens If You Click?
Clicking once does not always mean your device is infected. The risk depends on what you did next.
If You Only Opened the Page
Close it. Do not enter information. Do not click additional buttons. Do not allow notifications. Do not download anything.
If You Entered Your Email
You may receive more phishing emails or scam offers. Be cautious with future messages about cloud storage, antivirus renewals, package delivery, refunds, bank alerts, or account security.
If You Entered Payment Information
Contact your bank or credit card provider immediately. Tell them you entered your card details after being redirected from a fake cloud storage warning.
Ask about:
Blocking the merchant
Disputing the charge
Replacing the card
Stopping recurring payments
Monitoring future transactions
Also check whether you were enrolled in a subscription. Cancel it and save screenshots of all confirmation pages.
If You Installed Software
Uninstall the program immediately. Then check your browser extensions, startup apps, notification permissions, and default search engine. Run a full scan using trusted security software.
If You Allowed Notifications
Scam sites often ask for notification permission. Once allowed, they can keep sending fake alerts even after the original page is closed.
Remove suspicious sites from your browser notification settings.
If You Called a Support Number

Do not use the link or button from the pop-up.
Check your account manually.
For iCloud
Open your iPhone or iPad settings, tap your Apple ID, then check iCloud storage from there.
For Google Storage
Open Google One, Google Drive, or your Google account storage page directly.
For OneDrive
Sign in directly to your Microsoft account and check storage or subscriptions.
For Dropbox
Go directly to Dropbox and check your account plan and billing section.
If there is no warning inside your official account, the pop-up was fake.

STEP 2: Reset browsers back to default settings
In this step, we will remove spam notifications, malicious extensions, and change to default any settings that might have been changed by malware. Please note that this method will remove all extensions, toolbars, and other customizations but will leave your bookmarks and favorites intact. For each browser that you have installed on your computer, please click on the browsers tab below and follow the displayed steps to reset that browser.

Reset Chrome for Windows to default settings
We will now reset your Chrome browser settings to their original defaults. This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history, and saved passwords will not be cleared.
Open the Chrome menu
In the top-right corner of Chrome, click the three-dot (⋮) icon to open the menu.
Go to Settings
From the menu, select Settings.
Select “Reset settings”
In the left sidebar, scroll down and click Reset settings.
Choose “Restore settings to their original defaults”
Click the Restore settings to their original defaults option.
Confirm the reset
In the dialog that appears, click Reset settings to restore Chrome to its default state. Bookmarks, history, and saved passwords will remain, but extensions will be disabled and temporary data cleared.
Reset Firefox for Windows to default settings
We will now reset your Firefox browser settings to their default. The reset feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks, passwords, web form auto-fill information, browsing history, and open tabs.
Click the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner and then click on “Help”.

Click “More troubleshooting information”.
From the Help menu, click on “More troubleshooting information“.
Click on “Refresh Firefox”
When the “Troubleshooting Information” page opens, click on the “Refresh Firefox” button.
Confirm that you want to reset your browser settings.
To finish the reset process, click on the “Refresh Firefox” button in the new confirmation window that opens.
Click “Finish”.
Firefox will now close itself and will revert to its default settings. When it’s done, a window will list the information that was imported. Click on “Finish“.
Your old Firefox profile will be placed on your desktop in a folder named “Old Firefox Data“. If the reset didn’t fix your problem you can restore some of the information not saved by copying files to the new profile that was created. If you don’t need this folder any longer, you should delete it as it contains sensitive information.
Reset Microsoft Edge to default settings
We will now reset your Microsoft Edge browser settings to their default. This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history, and saved passwords will not be cleared.
Click the three dots in the top-right corner and then click on “Settings”.

Click on “Reset Settings”.
On the left side of the window, click on “Reset Settings“.
Click on “Restore settings to their default values”.
In the main window, click on “Restore settings to their default values“.
Click “Reset”.
A confirmation dialog should now be displayed, detailing the components that will be restored to their default state should you continue with the reset process. To complete the restoration process, click on the “Reset” button. Microsoft Edge will now erase all your personal data, browsing history, and disable all installed extensions. Your bookmarks, though, will remain intact and still be accessible.
Reset Internet Explorer to default settings
We will now reset your Internet Explorer browser settings to their default. You can reset Internet Explorer settings to return them to the state they were in when Internet Explorer was first installed on your computer.
Go to “Internet Options”.
Open Internet Explorer, click on the gear icon in the upper-right part of your browser, then select “Internet Options“.
Select the “Advanced” tab, then click “Reset”
In the “Internet Options” dialog box, select the “Advanced” tab, then click on the “Reset” button.
Click on “Reset”.
In the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” section, select the “Delete personal settings” checkbox, then click on the “Reset” button.
Click on “Close”.
When Internet Explorer has completed its task, click on the “Close” button in the confirmation dialogue box. Close your browser and then you can open Internet Explorer again.

Install Malwarebytes
After the download is complete, locate the MBSetup file, typically found in your Downloads folder. Double-click on the MBSetup file to begin the installation of Malwarebytes on your computer. If a User Account Control pop-up appears, click “Yes” to continue the Malwarebytes installation.

Quarantine detected malware

Malwarebytes will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the program’s quarantine.
Restart your computer.
When removing files, Malwarebytes may require a reboot to fully eliminate some threats. If you see a message indicating that a reboot is needed, please allow it. Once your computer has restarted and you are logged back in, you can continue with the remaining steps.

In this first step, we will check your computer to see if any configuration profiles are installed. To do this, follow the below steps:
Open “System Preferences”
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
Search for “Profiles”
When the System Preferences window opens, search for the Profiles icon.
If there isn’t a Profiles icon, you don’t have any profiles installed, which is normal and you can continue with the next steps.

Click “Empty Trash”
On the dock, right-click on the trash icon and select “Empty Trash”. Doing so deletes the Trash’s contents, including the program that you just sent to the Trash.
Find and remove the malicious files
Click the desktop to make sure you’re in the Finder, choose “Go” then click on “Go to Folder“.
Type or copy/paste each of the below paths into the window that opens, then click Go.

STEP 3: Reset browsers back to default settings
In this third step, we will remove spam push notifications and malicious extensions, and change to default any settings that might have been changed by malware. For each browser that you have installed on your computer, please click on the tab below and follow the displayed steps to reset that browser.

Remove malicious extensions and settings from Safari
To remove malware from Safari we will check if there are any malicious extensions installed on your browser and what settings have been changed by this malicious program.
Go to Safari’s “Preferences”.

Check Homepage.
This will open a new window with your Safari preferences, opened to the “General” tab. Some browser hijackers may change your default homepage, so in the Homepage field make sure it’s a web page you want to use as your start-up page.
