Old mail app is getting replaced by the New outlook app in windows 11 and MS has decided to default to "turnoff desktop notifications". and it won't turn on even if you enable app notification in System settings. Instead you now have to go to the new app and find the gear icon (setting) on top and go to General>Notifications>Notifications in outlook>click the drop down arrow and enable both "allow notifications to play sounds" and "send notifications when outlook is closed". An extremely clever way to keep people away from using the new app, well-done MS.
