Symantec Endpoint Protection is an antivirus solution for businesses, formerly owned by Symantec but acquired by Broadcom following its merger with Avast.
This version still uses the old Norton engine (not the new Avast-based engine), so we’re going to put it through its paces!

Interface :

The interface is very minimalist, quite old-school, but Symantec is also packed with highly advanced configuration options!
In this review, I’ll go ahead and configure it because, by default, I find the settings a bit lackluster...
The antivirus is also relatively lightweight.

Web protection: 9/9
All the links are blocked; only one is down.

Fake crack : N/A
The sample is too old and the site that distributed it was down.
Skipped.

Malware Pack : 28 out of 126 threats remain
The malware scan and removal process takes quite a while.
But Norton is also very effective!

Upon launch, Norton Symantec successfully blocked the traps set: IP-based intrusion blocking, web filtering (based on reputation), and antimalware protection for payloads... Well done!
There’s just one trace of ConnectWise left at the end (the installation was stopped by Symantec), and some adware is present.

Final scan :
Symantec : 0
NPE : 1
KVRT : 4

Final opinion:

Symantec offers very robust protection, and it’s worth noting that it’s better than Norton for the general public because it isn’t based on Avast and features very powerful behavioral and network-based blocking!
It managed to detect a machine that was almost clean—only one piece of adware was present.
The only downside: It’s quite complex to configure.
Highly recommended.

@Shadowra now that NPE is coming to an end (or ended) consider using other 2d opinion scanners along with KVRT, perhaps EEK, Eset Online, Hitman, that might give us good info about their relative strengths... (and other 2d op that I'm not immediately aware of) PS where / how do buy or trial SEP, Broadcom website listed Partners, and that got me nowhere?

Excellent test.
There’s just one trace of ConnectWise left at the end (the installation was stopped by Symantec), Good job by SEP doing that u never know what might happen if these tools are abused by TAs to function like a backdoor as explained here:

looks like that adware is quite nasty

@Shadowra first of all thanks for the test.

I remember old Gartner and Forrester reports on Symantec in which customers were happy with the protection, but found the support services a bit steep and complained about the continuous product changes. They seem to have taken the last criticism very seriously: Symantec 14 was first released in 2016 o_O 10 years later they are on 14.3 :ROFLMAO:

Flawless performance, very automated can't expect anything better than that from a free security suite. Aggressive web blocking is a bit to be managed from user side. Looks like Symantec's enterprise security business is under good hands of Broadcom.

Thanks for the test!
