Hello!

Recently, while on a streaming site, I accidentally clicked on a hidden advertisement which redirected me to another tab followed by several popups. I had to open Task Manager and force-close Chrome before I could interact with my browser again, and noticed that "COM Surrogate" had been listed twice. Concerned , I immediately cleared my browsing data from over the past hour and ran a Norton Security quick scan. Followed by this, I ran a Malwarebytes scan. Until I ran the Malwarebytes scan, COM Surrogate had been disappearing and reappearing constantly. Since the scan finished, I haven't seen it once.

During this entire period of time, my computer had been experiencing severe lag and delay. As stated above, even trying to open File Explorer took several seconds. My Disk usage spiked to 100% and my CPU usage was spiking from around 50 to 65%. Over the time, they eventually dropped (CPU hovering at around 7% and Disk spiking from 2% to 70%), but some performance issues are still occurring. At some moments everything is fine, but even when I'm sitting and doing nothing--it randomly worsens for seemingly random bursts of time. I attempted to do some research about it and thankfully found this site. I was hoping my issue could be looked into so I could have some peace of mind towards this, and would greatly appreciate it.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finishes FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

I haven't seen it run this smoothly since I first got it (thank you!). There's been minimal delays and my Disk/CPU usage have been hovering at around 0-10%. I've noticed that COM Surrogate has been listed twice in Task Manager on startups, but I'm not sure if that's normal or not--since none of the prior effects come with them. Other than that, everything seems fine. Are there any further steps I need to take?
