Opera Software is now offering a new, integrated security solution in its browsers to protect German users from phishing attacks, thanks to an agreement with cyscon, a company specializing in online security.

cyscon’s solution consists of an anti-phishing feed, PhishKiller, which is specifically geared toward the German language, adding more security to Opera’s existing fraud and malware protection feature. Opera is the first browser to integrate cyscon’s feed, providing German users with an additional layer of online security.

This security also have an add-on for firefox.

Hmmm how is the extension gear towards german users? Can phishing protection be specified to a particular place? :P

Also it looks good but too bad they don't have a chrome extension, which is kinda sad, hopefully they release one soon!

How is the extension on your computer @Terry Ganzi ? Usually extensions like this slows down browsing a little

No Slow down it works great,it is built in to opera as well. I'm a die hard Chrome user but i dabble in a few things to see how good they are.

Yes it can be specific. It is specfic in every country and language. While major brands like Paypal, Apple and Mastercard/Visa is a worldwide problem and phishing sites of those brands look simular, phishing attempts on local banks and online services are a "local" problem and mainly distributed locally.

RELEASE NOTES - VERSION 1.1.1
---
  • allows you to report sites which seem to abuse your personal data to protect yourself and others
  • detects data security breaches and notifies you that your login data may have been stolen, as it was the case with ashleymadison.com
  • detects whether your computer became a member of a botnet because it was infected by trojan software
  • detects sites which distribute malware and warns you before your computer becomes infected
  • warns you if the website you are visiting has delivered malware via infected banner ads (malvertising) over the past few days
  • detects phishing sites
  • detects attempts to steal your personal data
---
Please note: If you have already installed the add-on, the new features will be available automatically.

Version: 1.17.0 --> available via Mozilla Firefox Addon Manager

--
ADD: Data Privacy Feature - introducing Anti-Social Media tracking by giving user a 2-click functionality to enable social media widgets
IMPROVEMENT: extend exclude-list for safebrowing domains of security vendors
--

What does this mean:
cyscon security shield hides particular social widgets (in the current version only "facebook like boxes") behind an extra click, so you can use websites without getting tracked by facebook about every step you take online.

Please note: If you have already installed the add-on, the new features will be available automatically.

This works a treat for me but with a few false warnings, but that is better than not working at all. ;)

Unless you are german this extension is useless.
