The device has aroused concern over the security and privacy of users and the public. James Court, president and chairman of Consumer Watrchdog, a California-based non-profit consumer education and advocacy organization, has warned people not to buy the technology.

"This is not just a computer, this is spyware. I'm watching you, watching me. And anywhere you go, with these on, very few Americans will know that they are being recorded," said Court.

"When you wear these devices, you think you are wearing it, but really Glass is wearing you, Google is wearing you, you are becoming a set of eyes for Google. And Google has 98 percent of its revenue coming from advertising and marketing. It wants to know everything about you, and your friends, and your family, and everyone you come contact with, because it wants to target you and your friends, your family with products that the corporations that pay it want to show you. Suddenly, if you start to pick up a pair of glass for 1,500 dollars today, you suddenly become eyes for Google and give it more insight that it really deserves into our world. So we're hoping people take our advice and leave Glass where it is and don't become a Glass," he added.

Is Google Glass spyware?

Definitely!! People recording other people without their knowledge and Google who might be more of a threat to your privacy than those employed by the NSA

Google provides a service, and while doing so the offer a wide range of other services and software however while they are pretty good at it most of those services are free.
The huge amount of profit generated to provide those services in the first place comes from advertisement and technology sharing with partner companies.
So its only natural that there will be some sort of data collection considering that nearly the whole western continent uses google as their default provider for: Search engine, Email and other services. So the amount of data collected is HUGE.
Which gives google and its partners the ability to pin point advertisment per individual based upon browser habits and other collection methods.
As i mentioned before they earn millions and millions of dollars just by having you as a client using their free services.
Question needs to be asked: How free is it really? if you consider that Google earns around 1000 dollar per internet user (per day) who spend 3 hours a day on the net.
Thats right 3 hours online browsing earns google 1000 dollar per user.
Just by delivering adds and by collecting data which is being passed around to their direct partners.
As you can see this generates CASH and lots of it, and this is just based upon your 3 hours a day browser habits.
Imagin what they earn across all their services?
So corruption and cash fever is prone to happen anyway specially if you consider that google's direct rival Bing and Yahoo are MILES away from even coming close.
IMO the cash generated by google using their free services has corrupted the very core of those services in the first place.
And due to this big money they can do pretty much what ever they want and even if the court rules that something is wrong and they should pay a big fine, all this is already calculated before google even launches a service.

Big money does corrupt specially if there are so many nations and the data is so easy to get.
And if there is a law suit then who cares? do you really think that google breaks into panic if they have to pay 500 million dollar as a punishment? Within no time they wash it away with their cash flow.
If you consider that within the western world alone there are so many nations with crappy privacy laws then ask yourself the question:
Is google really spying? or are we asking them to exploit their users?
Afteral we are the ones using their services, we are the ones that make everything possible.
So give Google one good reason not to make money out of your browser habits.... they just provide a service based upon a need.
And as long companies are paying big money to have google display their ads, there will be nothing a court could ever to stop it.
If you want to stop Google or at least slow them down, then you really have to stop using their services (Which is almost impossible)
And this is what people do not realize.
Think about it.

Look. If you want to wear glasses and visualize a mobile phone in-front of you, then you buy the product. If you don't like how Google operate then don't buy them and don't use Google's products/services.

Simple as that.

@kram7750 How about the people in the line of sight of Google Glass, BUT do not want to be tracked/recorded? Please explain. That's right they have no choice in the matter.

At least when other recording devices (camera phones, camcorders) you know it's actually recording, Google Glass sits in the ON/Standby all the time.

Eventually, someone will come along (including shady Government agencies) and exploit Google Glass so that 'Apps with malicious intent' will monitor you 24/7, even when you're not wearing them. And then don't forget the built-in microphone to eavesdrop on conversations. Maybe geo-location tracking soon?

Sorry, my previous post was clearly idiotic... You are right on every level. Especially with the Goverment agency point.
Google glass should have a orange light when recording... So people are aware.

Next they'll be a app where you can put a marker on someone nearby in sight of Glass and track there footsteps... Personally I think the whole thing is unfair and out of order. I would not want to be recorded by someone using Glass, without my permission. Or have a pin pointed at me from behind and have someone stalking me...

Google Glass also has its positives. Yes, there may be apps like described in the OP, however, apps like these may be helpful, as long as they work as intended too: http://www.drivesafeforglass.com/

If it woks correctly, it may be incredibly useful. People get injuries, or in some worst-case scenarios, die. With that app, if it can function correctly, it may prevent as many injuries/deaths due to falling asleep whilst driving.

Glad I don't live in US :D luv my country <3
And what country might that be sir,or madam? For all our faults, the US. is still the greatest country on planet earth. If you think your government is not as interested in you than here, think again. Google glass, like any product, can be missused by people with less than honourable intentions. And those kinds of people can be found anywhere in the world.

i am living in Vietnam , i quit France hahaha . i think you didn't travel much. I lived in US before and i can say it is a nice country but the greatest i don't think it is anymore. 50 years ago i will say yes you are right.

in Economy, US is no more what it was , it is now behind Asia especially China that own 8% (around 1.2 trillion USD) , of the 46% of US debt owned by foreign countries/institutions.

US can't even manage to give free Healthcare to all its citizens, unlike France or other european countries.

i don't even have to mention the perpetual collusion between the government and corporations, leading to those fake Irak wars.

The best countries for living at the moment are North European ones (Sweden, Norways, finland, etc..).

but we are offtopic, if you want to debate about it , we can do via PMs.

Google already collects information sell it to 3rd parties, it's like invading peoples privacy. Google glass cost around $1,500 which is currently ₹ 91,000 in India & it's costly for normal living people & only rich people or who eager to buy will use this product so that means it will not widely use in India untill it's price will not bow down :D which means i have no such risk still. That's why i said before I luv my country. Btw, US economy is pushing down & it's not so greatest like it was before. If my country government wants to block google like China then it can, if it's want. Btw google glass is banned in some places like public place, bank/ATMS . Btw, China Baidu working on it's own google glass & i guess it will be more cheaper to buy :)
