Microsoft’s Clutter is a feature that was previously implemented in Office 365 and which analyzes the messages arriving in your email account in order to let pass only those that are considered to be important. All your emails are available in a different folder in case you wish to read them at a later time.
And starting this June, Clutter will become available in Outlook.com and Outlook 2016 (as part of Office 2016) at no additional cost, with Microsoft saying that users would be allowed to choose if they want this feature enabled or not.
If you turn it on, you shall see notifications telling you that high-priority messages are waiting in your inbox, while secondary folders would be created to let you read all the other emails.
Making Clutter less intrusive
Microsoft says that the notification system has also been tweaked to display less intrusive alerts.
“The alerts are sent when new types of emails are moved to Clutter for the first time, you will receive a maximum of one alert per day. The summary notification is sent once per week making it easy to know what Clutter is doing for you,” the company says.
In case you have already tried Clutter and didn’t like it, Microsoft says the feature won’t be turned on for your account, so you can continue using your email just like before.
“Users who have already turned Clutter on will continue to have Clutter on and will receive the new notifications. Users who have not turned Clutter on will have it turned on automatically. Users who have initially turned on Clutter and later turned it off will continue to have Clutter turned off,” it says.
The rollout of the new feature would being on June 1 for those included in the First Release program, while everyone else should get it on June 15, the company promises. All Outlook users should be able to try it by the end of the next month.
