must be MANY users updating as I'm running proton vpn's "checking for update" from 3.2.9 and seems to be cycling in a loop for minutes+++ ? first I tried with the vpn disconnected, and after several minutes of no joy, I connected the vpn and tried again, ditto. (try again another day...)

Proton has announced some upgrades for its VPN service. With elections coming up in dozens of countries, the company strives to provide its customers with easier access to information, especially in countries with heavy censorship and media manipulation.

Now, Proton VPN's free servers are available in five more countries that will be holding elections later this year.
Here are the countries where citizens can access Proton VPN for free:
  • Syria
  • Jordan
  • Tunisia
  • Uzbekistan
  • Brazil
Other countries that already have free access to Proton VPN include Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Algeria, Jordan, and more.

Proton is rolling out several new features for its VPN service. Besides adding new servers to 12 different countries, developers are introducing new anti-censorship features, such as the Stealth Protocol support on Windows, app masking on Android, and more.

New Proton VPN servers are now available in the following countries: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Yemen. Developers claim their goal is to support freedom of speech and "protect users in the event of government crackdowns and censorship."

Proton VPN users can now access the Stealth Protocol on Windows, which is a special tool designed to combat anti-VPN measures and disguise VPN traffic as regular traffic. Besides censorship, some services feature VPN-detection tools and can block VPN connections, preventing users from accessing them. Proton Stealth can help you with that. Until now, it has only been available on macOS, Android, and iOS. Starting today, Proton Stealth is also available on Windows.

This is why I'm going to give the free version a try:

I'm starting to have more issues with Mullvad. Some forum posted YouTube videos are now wanting me to log in to view the video. When I disable Mullvad, the video plays normally. Also, more and more webpage CAPTCHA's. So far the only thing that seems to work, is to connect to the very closest Mullvad server to where I am.
