Sony Vaio notebook users are being warned against going ahead with their upgrades to Windows 10.

The note was published before the Windows 10 launch on the Sony Europe site, but not everyone seems to have got the message.

Anyone discovering it now, could find the news comes a week too late, but given the serious warning, it should encourage others to hold off. We don’t get PC vendor messages like this very often:

If you do not wait for our test results before proceeding with the upgrade, some of the hardware or features on your VAIO computer may no longer work as intended. In such cases your VAIO computer may experience crashes, become unresponsive or may even suffer hardware damage. Your VAIO would then require service and you risk losing all of the data that is stored on the computer.

Sony is still testing its hardware and drivers for compatibility and there seems no hurry by the Japanese company to let Vaio users get upgrading.

Its not like there’s even a list of affect products, with the document listing “personal computers” as the devices affected, with is as generic as you can get.

Perhaps this is hopefully one of the better examples of Microsoft’s staggered upgrade effort, even if it is angering some Sony users over the delay.

Again its not MS fault just because some companies and software developers are late on updating their stuff for windows 10. This is another BS story just so that sony can find a quick excuse. Don't blame MS again on this one...

Well that should be already a priority even before because Microsoft is done on the part to provide partnership and make Windows 10 support on major platforms.

Since majority of people are not so tech savvy to be up to date on news so its already a responsible for them.

There's always a solution for any problems.

Agreed 100% on that.

I thought Sony Computer branch has been stopped...

Anyway Sony is one of the leading bloatware company.

" You buy a Sony , you get a free format and clean install"
They should've renamed VAIO to BLIO (BLoatware Integrated Operation)

I have an older VAIO and installed Windows 10 Pro without problems as well as installing the latest update.
I agree that it is the companies fault and not MS.Same old same old.Happened on Windows 8 also.
I must applaud Sony for getting this information out in such a timely fashion :D

If I said it first you can't sue me because you were warned, usual legal practice, blah blah. On the other hand it's a good practice because it seams that Win 10 needs some more refining for everything to work across the hardware plain, hardware manufacturers in some cases do need extra time to perfect drivers and their support for everything to work smoothly.

*UPDATE* Sony tells VAIO owners not to upgrade to Windows 10 until drivers are ready in October

On the company's support site, an ominous warning advises users that you should "wait to upgrade your PC until the drivers are ready" for your specific model. As Sony explains:

We are testing supported models and will be providing the results as quickly as possible. We plan to release Windows 10 upgrade information and, for Windows 8 and 8.1 models, drivers, applications and detailed information on the schedule below based on the operating system originally installed on the PC.

The schedule states that the company will provide further information this month for those wishing to upgrade PCs originally sold with Windows 8 and 8.1:

However, detailed upgrade instructions, along with those all-important Windows 10-ready drivers and applications, won't be released until October for VAIO PCs that originally came with Windows 8.1 onboard, and November for those that launched with Windows 8 pre-installed.

Worryingly, it's worth noting that Sony didn't mention any plans to release Windows 10 drivers and apps for Windows 7 devices, which are also covered by Microsoft's free upgrade offer. Instead, these devices are mentioned under a separate schedule:

Notably, no delivery date is even hinted at for drivers and apps for Windows 7 PCs; Sony has committed only to delivering "Information regarding Limitation and Issues" for these devices sometime this month. Call us cynical, but that sounds an awful lot like Sony's support of Windows 10 on older Windows 7 PCs will be half-hearted, at best.
