I continue to have issues with the Superfish virus. It continues to show on Chrome with the Ad by Notification banners. Have run a number of scans including Malwarebytes, Hitwire, AdwCleaner and have cleared browser history and reset...yet it continues. Please help!

Hello,

Please uninstall Google Chrome, and delete all user data. Then install it again, but do not sign in? How is the situation now?

I have reloaded Chrome and all seems well without logging in. So far, so good. Do I try signing in?

The Importance of Software Updating:

In order to stay protected it is
very important that you regularly update all of your software. Cybercriminals depend on the apathy of users around software updates to keep their malicious endeavor running.

Operating systems, such as Windows, and applications, such as Adobe Reader or JAVA, are used by tens of millions of computers and devices around the world, making them a huge target for cybercriminals. Downloading updates and installing them can sometimes be tedious, but the advantages you get from the updates are certainly worth it.

Recommended additional software:

TFC - to clean unneeded temporary files.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - to scan your system from time to time in search for malware.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Exploit - to prevent plenty of mostly exploited vulnerabilities.

McShield - to prevent infections spread by removable media.

CryptoPrevent - to secure yourself from very severe CryptoLocker infection.

Unchecky - to prevent from installing additional foistware, implemented in legitimate installations.

FiheHippo.com Update Checker - to keep your programs up-to-date.

Adblock - to surf the web without annoying ads!

Post-cleanup procedures:

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the

icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
  • All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)
The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

I decided to go through the whole protocol you recommended again (and found questionable items) and lastly deleted and reloaded Chrome again. I haven't signed in as I figured I'd give it a bit of time to see...and right now everything seems fine. Should I sign in?

If malware appears when you sign into Chrome, then you can either create new chrome account or use another browser.
I just dealt with this on my computer...

I didn't figure it out until i uninstalled chrome and a few other things, cleared out a few odd programs in program files that weren't listed in the control panel, then looked at the programs pinned to my taskbar.

The chrome icon was still there...when I clicked it it said "chromelauncher.exe" no longer exists. I didn't look where the file was, but I'll check on my wife's laptop and see where it is on there. This launcher is what is overlaying chrome. and why it is only Chrome and not IE or FF.

So for a novice, uninstall chrome -> *remove the chrome shortcuts by right clicking and unpinning/deleting" -> reinstall chrome.
