I see no one on our forum that deals with subject: Search Engines ..
So I would like to repair this lack: Here are my new topic:
The Most Secure and Private Search Engines.
Each one could describe here his favorite search engine, and the reasons for his choice.
In the topic: 'Prorootect's config' (here: http://malwaretips.com/Thread-Prorootect-s-config ) - I wrote:
'Such as' Real-time protection '- I also think of my secure search engines: Privatelee, StartingPage, Scroogle ..'
So today I want to tell you about Privatelee search (and Qrobe.it and Ahdle too).

Hey there, would you surf the Internet with peace of mind, seeing the WOT colored dot next to each search result, and with other options like AVG Link Scanner and Google's SafeBrowsing diagnostic? So you choose Privatelee (or Qrobe.it) and you would be satisfied, you would stay married forever with this SECURE and private search engine! Like me.

Privatelee Search Engine: http://privatelee.com/ - try HTTPS version also ..

Qrobe.it Search Engine: http://qrobe.it/ - try HTTPS version also ..

Ahdle - The Family Friendly Search Engine: http://ahdle.com/

Yes, Privatelee (and also Qrobe), and IE8 (or better IE9) tweaked - it's the lightest security setup I've recently been able to find for me. The lightest security setup saves the resources, so increases the browsing speed ..

They use WOT API to provide at its users an secure searching experience .. very convenient: The search engine qrobe.it protects users with WOT:
http://www.mywot.com/en/blog/310-the-search-engine-qrobe-protects-its-uses-with-wot

WOT and Ahdle help families and kids surf safe ( yes, Ahdle are the best Search for children, because it's security and privacy I think!): http://www.mywot.com/en/blog/373-wot-and-ahdle-help-families-and-kids-surf-safe

Enhanced Privacy is here: 'Your privacy is very important to us. We do not track, analyze or profile our users.' Qrobe Privacy Policy: http://qrobe.it/docs/qrobe/privacy.htm

With all these awesome search engines, for verify the safety of our search results, with each link we have also Google's Safe Browsing diagnostic and Link Scanner Online by AVG, yes, I did ..

Quite admit to you that I stopped using Google and others .. I rely almost exclusively on Privatelee, I feel safer - thank you so much, developers!

PS. It seems to me that these search engines are also in Firefox add-ons ..

PS2: I had looked for you on Privatelee Images: fractals animation .. Not bad, yes? ..: http://privatelee.com/images/?q=fractals+animation

I like the idea of a search engine that cares about my privacy, however I'm so used to Google... People tend to forget that Google is mainly an advertising company. Sure they offer good free products and services but they make money by serving ads. As long as they track me with the only purpose of serving me relevant ads, I am OK with it. However I also use duckduckgo.com quite often. This service has a no-tracking policy.

I like the idea of using the WOT API... but could this be done without the use of javascript?

No of course, WOT demand JS.

I'm using Google for a very long time already and I think I'll stick to it but thanks for the handful of information anyway, I still don't know some of these.

I'm a fan of Scroogle.org. Same Google results without the big brother aspect.

Although I use Google calendar and Gmail, so they already have the goods on me. ;)

You have two choices:
A search engine that tracks you and provides results based on that information

A search engine that does not track you and has no information to base results on

Depending on your needs either can be the right fit. But there's a reason Google's the leading engine.

@Earth,
'DuckDuckGo.com uses WOT you can change the settings ..'
- Yes but after CCleaner passage you lost the cookie and WOT with.
Then in CCleaner Options tab - select (add) the DuckDuckGo cookie you want keep and it's done.

@swftech,
'Great thread,'
- Thanks you!

@BoXX28, HeffeD,
'Google .. I think I'll stick to it..'
- Habit is the worst - you can sleep, and the dangers are around the corner ..
Next post by HeffeD is right: 'Scroogle.org. Same Google results without the big brother aspect.'
StartingPage: https://www.startingpage.com/ or
StartPage: https://startpage.com/
- these two secure and private search engines are also enhanced by Google results: 'Startingpage offers you Web search results from Google in complete privacy! When you search with Startingpage, we remove all identifying information from your query and submit it anonymously to Google ourselves. We get the results and return them to you in total privacy. ..'
Yes, Google results with security and privacy here.
And we have also eg
Xfinity Search: http://search.comcast.net/ - 'powered by Google' .. etc; maybe Google custom results which are different than Google Classic searches.
Google Search (french translation: 'Recherche Google') - with
Firefox Google here: http://www.google.fr/firefox - just married ?..

@Hungry Man,
'A search engine that does not track you and has no information to base results on'
- OK, but in many search engines you have after click on your result - the possibility to click on 'similar' button like in
Blekko Search: http://blekko.com/ , or
Zuula Search: http://www.zuula.com/#eng=&st=&loc=...=&pglnk=&thmblnk=&thmwd=&thmht=&imgwd=&imght= , or
StartingPoint: http://www.stpt.com/ 'powered by Google', or 'more' button, or 'Click for real-time recommendations' button like in
SurfCanyon Search: http://www.surfcanyon.com/ - and with the search example here: http://www.surfcanyon.com/search?q=malware+tips&f=hp

'Depending on your needs either can be the right fit.'

About DuckDuckGo settings and the use of cookies:
As far as I can see DuckDuckGo also accepts URL Parameters so I could use this url:
Code:
https://duckduckgo.com/?kf=fw&kh=1&k1=-1
and have a customized page (WOT + favicons on all results, HTTPS On, Advertisements Off) without any cookies.

About Scroogle and Powered by Google search engines:
Isn't this a bit unfair?

I use Google.
It finds whatever i am looking for with ease.
They already provide my email, calendar, contacts, google+, photos, a big chunk of docs. I use Chrome and Android. Might as well go all in. :D

I do use DuckDuckGo for programming/coding related searches. Their "!bang" searches are just perfect for that.

@iPanik,

Your Quote:
'I use Google.
It finds whatever i am looking for with ease.'

- But consider this:
Quote:
'No search engine indexes the entire Web and in fact, individual search engines index a very small percentage of the free and publicly accessible Internet. Sometimes finding information on people and/or privately held companies can be difficult so if you’re not getting the results you want from one search engine, it’s not a bad idea to try others.'
And this is not bad about our DuckDuckGo: 'Finally, unlike Google which tracks your searches and shares that information with advertisers (and yes…your Google searches CAN be traced back to you), DuckDuck does not track any of your searches or clicks.'
These quotes are from this good read by Sam Richter's 'Know More Blog': 'Just a Simple Search with a Funny Name': http://www.knowmoreblog.com/just-a-simple-search-with-a-funny-name
So what do you think now, iPanik?
Getting creepy - look at this NYT drawing by Randy Siegel: Google 2084: http://will-lion.blogspot.com/2008/11/getting-creepy.html

Put a tab in your search engine this should not pose the problem .. I have 6 tabs for now (Bing with nice daily shots, Privatelee, DuckDuckGo, Scroogle, Google Bahamas, Melzoo ..).

Never say never again ..

'Some cookies were blocked ..' because of my privacy status: c.atdmt.net / c.gif? .. and: cms.abmr.net / pix? ..
Then there is an remaining element on the Bing page. Every day.

I've found https://encrypted.google.com/ to be most secure. Previous to HTTPS-Everywhere I had no idea it existed. :)

* DuckDuckGo Searches Going Waaaaay Up: on ghacks.net: http://www.ghacks.net/2012/02/16/duckduckgo-searches-going-waaaaay-up/

QUOTE:
'DuckDuckGo, the search engine that I’m using as my primary information retrieval tool on the Internet, has just marked an all new high yesterday. For the first time ever since the search engine opened its doors, it received more than 1 million direct search queries. These are generated by direct user requests. Api requests sit steady at the ten million per day mark.

This may not seem that impressive in comparison to search engines like Google or Bing, who likely get that traffic in minutes and not days. For DuckDuckGo though, it is reason to celebrate, especially if you take a look at the current growth rate of the site.'

DuckDuckGo is a Perl based search engine that focuses on delivering quality results while respecting users’ privacy. Two privacy issues they focus on are the search bubble and tracking. They even offer a Tor hidden service. DuckDuckGo’s website is also available over SSL.

One of the most unique things DuckDuckGo provides are the !bang syntax searches. With the !bang syntax one can narrow their search to a specific type of results or a specific site. They support hundreds of sites, and they have a complete list of available !bang commands here.

DuckDuckGo provides the ability to adjust search settings including, safe search, region, 0-click result, secure searching (HTTPS), re-directs, and user themes.'

I agree with one of the comments made.

The results include hits that are never revealed with Google, Yahoo, or Bing. And, maybe (something changed), spam level went way down.
Source (view comments)

I never seen spam, but maybe because I been using this only 4 to 5 months now.

I use the "WOT + favicons on all results, HTTPS On, Advertisements Off" configuration, and still use !g (HTTPS Google UK) from time to time.
