Internet savvy user may already be aware of these tactics, but for those who aren't, see below. This also may be why many recommend using an AdBlocker; most common are browser extensions (ie. AdBlock or AdBlock Plus) You may encounter this whilst browsing online video sites to catch-up with the latest movies or TV shows, without an AdBlocker. While it may not cause an immediate danger, falling for the bait and you may end up with unwanted software or even a virus on your PC. Image 1: A message that duplicates the browsers methods of informing the user, a "HD video codec is missing" with an "Install" button. Image 2: Does this look familiar? Looks like the Chrome's website, but it's a copy with a download for the fake codec. Image 3: Hmm.. the landing page doesn't exist. Let's take a look at the Site Rating of the webpage (as shown in the screenshots) :
http://www.urlvoid.com/scan/hd-plugin.com/ https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/www.hd-plugin.com
Hope you found this helpful in some way! :)
